a short documentary film i made of talented new jersey photographer michael massaia who makes long exposure photos that he prints on his own paper . i made the documentary for popular photography ( when i was creative director ) who were running a story on photographers who still print photos . i read a transcript of their interview with michael and became fascinated by him . i " wrote " the story and planned out the filming , recruiting amazing photographer adam weiss to shoot . it's all soft and shallow focus in reference to the type of cameras michael uses . i also never show his face til the end . it's intended to feel like you are being brought into michael's world . we shot it in one night in new jersey and central park , though the voicover was done later after an initial cut . nnfind me at samsyed.tvnnor nngoogle.com/+SamSyed   Less

When we have some white space between projects, we grab a of these problems and over the course of 24 hours, push ourselves to solve it. This means brainstorming, building a working prototype, and testing it in the field. With 24 hours to do all this, there's not much time to over-think and second-guess decisions - it forces us to let intuition take the lead. nn# Problem: “I can’t find my bike at the train station”nIf you are a cyclist in a bike-friendly city, you probably recognize the feeling of being unable to find your bike when parking in a busy place. It can be a nightmare to find your bike - even if you remember the place where you parked it, people may have moved it or it’s squished under other bikes. We used this 24h-FROLIC to come up with a way to find a bike after parking it in very bike-crowded places. nn# Solution: Bluetooth Bike Bell + AppnWe hacked a bike bell so that from the outside it looks like an ordinary bell, however on the inside it’s nothing but normal. It is packed with electronics and uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to connect to your iPhone. nnWhen you park your bike and walk away from it, you break the bluetooth connection to your bike and the app will automatically drop a pin on the map. This gives you the general location of your bike using GPS. With BLE you can use your phone to even more precisely locate your bike’s position. But in the insanity of these bike parking lots, this may still not be enough as you often stand right by your bike and have difficulties spotting it. With so much immigration in a short amount of time, Sweden has had a lot of logistics to work out — like where to put them all. When asked about his decision to allow his theme park to become a camp while closed for the winter, Emil Erlandsson said that he knew his grandfather would’ve done the same. “He built this place with the philosophy of the American settlers.” While many refugees take shelter in tents and athletic stadiums, this bizarre and unexpected American West setting in the middle of a Swedish forrest in the middle of winter has become one of the better refugee camps in Sweden. Take a trip with this time-lapse production into the city and see the sights and sounds that create this magnificent destination. nnFor us, this time-lapse production was produced using more than 50,000 still frames, shot over the course of 6 months traveling back and forth from Washington DC to New York City. Our main goal was to capture the central part of the city in both visuals and audio. The sound effects used in this production were taken from the various locations we shot and were added in to give you the feeling of actually being there. nnThere were multiple times during this shoot that we were chased off, either by cops or the cold. The subway shots were particularly difficult to get, especially in the wake of the Boston bombings. It is alleged that naval destroyer USS Eldridge was rendered invisible, allowing it to be hidden from enemy devices. The experiment was based on the Unified Field Theory, a term coined by Albert Einstein.
