Everyone makes experimental films when they dream.nnDreams are picture-driven, non-linear quilts of movie-like moments sprinkled with cryptic epiphanies. They play nightly in the private cinema of your head but the rub is the audience must be asleep. Then again, maybe sleep, or at least the suspension of conscious thought, is the ideal state for entering such a movie.nn“All the Wrong Reasons” is an experiment in making a film that feels as if it has percolated up from the subconscious; a dream you can watch with your eyes open. It’s one of those big cathartic dreams, a labyrinth of fleeting moments full of metaphor and mischief. I wanted it to feel like a bumpy roller coaster ride in and out of the dark side of the brain where all the wrong reasons reside. And, as with all dreams, the meaning and significance are open to interpretation.nnThere are almost 3,000 paintings and collages in this film. I used rapidly changing color to give a shimmer to the animation and lots of collage to create a visually percussive texture. Shay Lynch’s score pulls all of the wildly disparate images together.nnThis film was originally made for the New York Times, opinion, for my blog The Animated Life. Less

This is a Star Wars spin-off project. Since we are never going to see (and play) remakes or sequels to the famous SW series of space simulations like Tie Fighter and X-Wing, I wanted to do my own version of them. My goal was to make it exactly as if you would play the SW (the original) movies. Very similar in lighting, style and general atmosphere. The game is set in universe similar to the SW as it is artistically inspired by it. This universe could be a sort of parallel SW universe if you will. So, ships, fighters, vehicles and sociopolitical setting could be similar as well...but not quite the same.nnThis is pre-pre-pre-alpha testing WIP stage, just to see how everything would feel and work (so, no texture work, just rough draft design models). Video is captured in real time in Unreal Engine 4. This is one really, really (really) great engine. I was quite pleased with the overall performance of it, because I could make movie-like atmosphere, to be realistic and yet to have that stylized lighting. It is quite capable and versatile engine. There are few glitches in the video, however they are made by a video capture software for some reason (mini-game performed flawlessly, even as it was not optimized).nnEverything in this video (except laser blast sound and music) is original (made/designed) and it is inspired by the SW original movies.nnDISCLAMER ones again -this is Star Wars SPIN-OFF project and it is only inspired by it. The Blaster sound and the music was only used in this non-profit, fan video, just to give it a flavor and it will not end up in the final project. Less

The movie shows a 3D Map of the nearby Universe, where we take successive slices. The volume we have mapped is roughly circular, so its a bit like slicing an orange vertically from the edge through to the opposite edge. The location of our Milky Way Galaxy is in centre of the middle frame (marked SGZ=0) halfway through the movie. The map spans nearly two billion light year from side to side. Regions with many galaxies are shown in white or red, whereas regions with fewer galaxies are dark blue.nnThis movie is based on the work presented in Carrick et al (http://arxiv.org/abs/1504.04627). I beleive that movies have a major role in shaping our personality and behavior. Especially animatied films that had a profound effect on our childhood and instilling morals that grew up with us. This is one of the reasones, in this short film, I am sticking to a message that may inspire both young and adult audience. In Reach short film, I did not only illustrate and encourage altruism, but also showed a reward given in return. http://matarawi.wix.com/matarawi#!films/cpax Less

Dresses whirl past on a radio-controlled coat-hanger in this installation by Amsterdam-based German designer Michael Schoner at the Droog Design flagship store in Amsterdam. The movement was controlled by manipulating two fans, taken from computers, at the top of the mobile. nnHere are some more details from Schoner:nnThe Coathanger Chopper is a radio-controlled coat-hanger, dangling from a mobile, which allows it to move around in space.nnIt is powered by two 1,8 watt computer fans, that can be tilted up and down like the eyebrows of Number 5 (the robot of the 1986 movie "short circuit"), thus causing the hanger to spin or move for - or backward. The downward draft of the rotors causes light cloth to wave. In motion the cloth appear to be floating, sometimes moving slow sometimes slinging by fast on the levers of the mobile. Two kilos of salt and one kilo of sugar act as counterweights.nnThe Coathanger Chopper was shown as part of Amsterdam’s fashion exhibition Winter Salon in collaboration with Painted (Saskia van Drimmelen and Margreet Sweerts). The installation at Droog Designs’s flagship store featured a large projection of the song “The One” by Toversex (Pieter Wackers and Erzsi Pennings) starring Natascha De Jong dancing.nBehind a wooden screen people could try on knitwear out of the “Secrets” collection and place an order.nnJan 21st - Feb 5th 2012 at Droog Design flagship store, Amsterdam.nnSee all our movies at www.dezeescreen.com Less
