Since time ‘sped up’, we are losing the concept of physical space. New electronic components are blurring the boundaries between the active and passive experience of art and the built environment. The axiomatic foundation of our existence is being called into question. Inhabiting our body, it turns out, is just as tenuous an internal construct as our spatial illusion and distorted corporeal self.nnThis video collage combines modified found footage with pre-recorded one in an interplay that attempts to mimic a hypothetical sleep onset of a person, i.e. the transition from wakefulness into sleep. The idea being that with the advancement of transhumanist ideology & neurotechnology, we might arrive at a time where we could choose our own visual narrative. We might playback our subconsciously stored images seen throughout the day as a movie. All of the frames have been specifically made into animated GIFs and then recombined back into a video in order to induce a repetitive, monotone effect. It is also a cautionary tale of the advent of neuroprosthetics and what might it be if in the future we are to be able to experience such 'designed' scenarios as a form of neuro-entartainment. The video attempts to stay true to the hypnagogic imagery (experience) by using the gaze or the eye of the beholder (or protagonist) as a starting point of a journey through the visual artifacts of the day gone and loosely constructed narrative structure that effortlessly emerge from the shift in conscious perception. The sound used is an amplified 6 Hz binaural beat also known as the theta wave rhythm (an oscillatory pattern in EEG signals recorded either from inside the brain or from electrodes glued to the scalp). This video is part of a bigger personal study that I am currently pursuing, that deal with this threshold mental phenomena and includes lucid dreaming, hallucinations, sleep paralysis and the uncanny valley. nnThe video montage was designed to be viewed as an installation piece, one visitor at a time, while floating in an isolation tank with stereo headphones. It can also understand "postures" such as an open palm, a finger-point or a closed fist.nnThe resulting data is sent wirelessly to a computer, keyboard and other electronic music equipment, allowing musicians to create music by moving their hands rather than by playing a keyboard or pressing buttons.nn"Fifty percent of a performance is racing around between various instruments and bits of technology on stage," Heap told Dezeen in an exclusive interview ahead of the Kickstarter launch. "I wanted to create something where I could manipulate my computer on the move wirelessly so that music becomes more like a dance rather than a robotic act like pressing a button or moving a fader."nnThe latest version of the gloves was developed as part of Heap's ongoing The Gloves Project, which began four years ago. In 2012 she performed with an early version of the gloves at the Wired 2012 conference.nnWhile developed for musicians, Heap said the gloves could be "hacked" for other uses.nn"I'm not claiming they're going to be the answer to every interaction with the computer but there's a lot of applications where it just feels wrong to use a mouse and a keyboard," she said. "You might want to be able to make something in some architecture software where you could stretch a building or draw little windows and quickly move them around like play-dough and maybe we'll get to the point where people will start to develop software like that."nnShe added: "It's essentially a remote control and anything that you could potentially do with your hands, you could do with your gloves."nnThe key piece of technology in each glove is an x-IMU board developed by x-IO Technologies, which is mounted on the back of the hand and contains an accelerometer, magnetometer, gyroscope and wifi transmitter. Furnished Fluid is visualization that utilizes the air flow that we are practically unaware of in our daily lives. By applying fluid simulation technology — with seemingly no relation to daily life — to the objects overflowing in our surroundings, the complex and elaborate air flow and ecosystem that are invisible to the naked eye but present all around us are made apparent.nnAs a symbol of 20th century industrial design, miniatures of chairs are placed in front of three 4K displays. W. W. Stool (1990) by Philippe Starck, Robie House 1 (1908) by Frank Lloyd Wright, and the Big Easy (1991) by Ron Arad were selected in tribute to these great designers, as the works are unrivaled and magnificent in beauty.nnForm data for the chairs were input initially into fluid dynamics software that was developed independently; it calculates the density and velocity of virtual space in real time at a speed of 45 frames per second. Then, it dynamically renders particles’ movements and colors. In the fluid simulation, it focused on the characteristic parts of the three chairs and calculated the behavior of the surrounding fluids on a two-dimensional scale. This process resembles the CT scanning of internal parts of the human body that are invisible to the naked eye. The aim is to slice the complex and turbulent forms surrounding the chairs flatly so that they can be understood intuitively.nnWe offer two visualization modes. Air mode describes the air flow surrounding the furniture by displaying fine particles against a white background. To derive various interpretations regarding air flow and stagnation generated by the chairs and furniture forms, values for fluid viscosity and time steps vary. Stellar mode expresses the microcosm of the current that the chairs generate by utilizing particles that radiate a blue light against a black background. In both modes, the particles are colored according to their velocity and the density of the field; they vividly illustrate the ecosystem of the current pattern.nnThis installation, which integrates design miniatures and real-time images, enables us to use the power of science to make visible the appealing and valuable aspects of industrial design that have been invisible up to the present time. As the beholder observes the constantly changing image of fluids, he/she begins to catch the details of a chair that have always existed but which could not be perceived by the senses.
