Thousands rally in Jerusalem for pot legalization. 19/04/2014 Police seal off park next to Knesset in attempt to head off ‘Big Bong Night’ protest; 30 arrested. soome 2,000 people massed outside the Knesset in Jerusalem on Saturday night to demand the legalization of cannabis. The protesters were blocking the entry road to the Knesset early Sunday morning and clashing with police, who were attempting to dispel the demonstration and reopen the road. Thirty protesters were arrested, 23 for disturbing the peace, after they blocked the Yitzhak Rabin Boulevard to traffic, and seven for drug violations. Demonstrators smoked pot publicly, and chanted “the people demand legal cannabis,” a spin off of the slogan for the 2011 social justice protests. The protest, dubbed “The Big Bong Night,” was originally slated to take place in the nearby Wohl Rose Park, but police sealed off the area in an attempt to prevent it from taking place. A man has been charged with trespass and possessing drugs after climbing a Brisbane crane in the early hours and refusing to come down for six-and-a-half hours. The 21-year-old Hervey Bay man, who entered the Woolloongabba work site about 4:30am, was at times seen making obscene gestures and hanging off the crane. He continually said: "Keep f****** climbing" as he evaded one rescue attempt. Carl Street was closed in both directions as Queensland Police and Emergency Services tried to coax the man down. Negotiators climbed the crane at about 10:15am and the man came down 45 minutes later. Queensland Police on Sunday afternoon charged the man with trespass, wilful damage, unauthorised high-risk activity, obstruct police and possessing dangerous drugs. Acting Inspector Kevin Fitzgibbon said the man had risked his life. "It appears he was out with family and friends in the City and Valley [Fortitude Valley] overnight, they have lost contact with him and [we] received a call at 4.30 in the morning saying he had scaled this structure," he said.
