An American political analyst says the Ukrainian government is “a proxy of the United States” and Washington is using Ukraine as a “microcosm” for its “aggressive foreign policy.” “Ukraine has become a microcosm for US foreign policy, that is to say, an aggressive foreign policy that seeks to make war, destabilize countries, and use them as leverage against the ultimate enemies in the eyes of Washington – Russia and China,” said Eric Draitser, founder of Stopimperialism.com, in a phone interview with Press TV on Thursday. The “ultimate fear of the establishment in Washington” is “that the US hegemony is something of the past [and] that the time that the United States could dictate the world financially, economically, politically, and militarily, those days are behind us,” he added. Draitser made the remarks as he commented on some US lawmakers' push for sending “lethal aid” to the government Kiev. On Wednesday, Sen. Carl Levin (D-Michigan), the chairman of the powerful Senate Armed Services Committee, told reporters that the US should provide “certain types” of lethal weapons to Ukraine. “It’s not surprising that US lawmakers would be looking to send lethal aid to the Ukrainian military because, of course, we know that the government, so-called government in Ukraine, is a proxy of the United States. It was created by the United States with the backing of the United States and it exists only insofar as the United States and its European allies allow it to,” Draitser told Press TV. Draitser also said that the push for sending military equipment to Kiev is a bipartisan effort in Washington and is aimed at benefiting US arms manufacturers and security contractors. “The interesting political character of the so-called support for the Ukrainian military is led by Democrat Carl Levin but is bipartisan effort and in fact we’ve seen Republicans who have bashed President Obama for not being aggressive enough; we’ve seen Democrats – certainly with bloodlust in their minds – who are pushing for escalation of war in Ukraine, who are pushing for escalation of war all over the place,” he said. “This also illustrates the belligerency of the US political establishment, the bipartisan consensus for war and this is precisely what we’re seeing,” Draitser added.
