The typically mythology of an entrepreneur is often a young single person, burning the candle at both ends. And that was Joanne Wilson’s plan until “life got in the way, and I had these children.” However, part of the benefits of starting your own business means building the lifestyle you want to lead. In this talk, investor and entrepreneur Joanne Wilson shares how she launched her own business even when life happens. nnBalancing a complicated life, says Wilson, requires a devotion to a single dream or goal. “It helps you plot out the course of your life.” But more importantly, it makes sure your business never gets off track. “Your talents allow you to dream about how you want to get up everyday… the ability to dream about your creative desires and match them with your life dream is the road to being able to lead the life you want to life.”nnAbout Joanne WilsonnJoanne has had several careers starting out as a buyer at Macys to running a company in the rag trade eventually leading to spearheading sales for a start-up magazine/e-zine/events company called Silicon Alley Reporter. On to the non-profit world where she chaired MOUSE (Making Opportunities in Upgrading Schools in Education) an organization focused on technology in inner-city schools. She has sat on a number of profit and non-profit boards and has been involved with a variety of real estate transactions from beginning to end.nnJoanne has been blogging since 1994 under the name Gotham Gal. She is involved with the start-up community as an angel investor and adviser. She has been a champion of women in tech by starting and co-chairing the Women’s Entrepreneurial Festival with the ITP division of NYU. Many of the companies she is working with are owned or started by women. Less

Much of today’s news coverage focuses on terrorism, corruption and other disturbing topics. However, the United States is also full of interesting and inspiring people working to make a positive difference in unusual places or ways, far from the glare of the New York and Los Angeles media spotlights. They are the subject of “The Heart of America”, a new short video series from TheBlaze Documentary Films.nnThe 2015 NFL regular season kicks off tonight when the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots host the Pittsburgh Steelers. But before they can tee the ball up, another team in a small Ohio town first has to make it by hand. Mark Wilson heads north of the border to meet up with Louif Paradis in his hometown, Quebec City. Just five minutes down the road from Louif’s house, the guys get some sidehit warm-up laps in via the two chairlifts at La Relais before grabbing the Aesmo’s for a couple turns in the woods behind Louif’s house. After a storm hits and drops some new snowfall downtown, Louif takes Mark downtown to show him how he rides the city.nnFor more info visit www.dakine.com Less
