Intersil’s product portfolio of power module solutions This video will demonstrate the benefits of these new products which are available to purchase from Future Electronics. As the power architecture for communication, computing and industrial systems becomes more demanding, so do the design requirements. Classic discrete power solutions can be complicated, take up valuable real-estate and may have significant power output limitations. As you see here in this example, 33 external components were used to build this system – DC to DC switching controllers, power MOSFETS, inductors and capacitors. Compare that to a power module solution from Intersil which uses only NINE external components. Intersil’s analog power module product offering includes a broad line of products for almost any application. Power modules with single outputs and/or single output configurations range from 3A to 40A. Intersil’s dual output products range from 3A to 20A. PhotoMOS Optically-Isolated Relays 2. AGN Signal Relays and 3. ALDP Power Relays Optically isolated relays are characterized by the use of a LED on their input side, MOSFETs on the output side and an array of photo sensors in between. In operation, current flows through the LED, which then emits light. The photo sensor array detects the emitted light, triggering a voltage drop that drives the MOSFETs to finally switch the load circuit. http://www.futureelectronics.com/en/Search.aspx?dsNav=Ny:True,Ro:0,Nea:True,N:562-4294938236 With no moving parts, solid-state relays avoid all the obvious mechanical failure modes associated with traditional relays. They also tend to offer desirable electrical characteristics and design advantages. Next, we will address the typical target applications for the PhotoMOS. The first target application is in test and measurement systems. To keep pace with advances in the electronics industry, these systems increasingly require solid-state relays that combine low capacitance, low on-resistance, physical isolation and high linearity. All these characteristics play an important role as data acquisition devices become faster and more precise. • The Low capacitance • The Low on-resistance • And finally, the High linearity ensures accurate measurements. Solid-state relays such as PhotoMOS shine when it comes to reliability. Without the moving parts of an electromechanical relay, solid-state relays typically have an excellent mean time to failure (MTTF). Solid-state relays may have a higher price tag than electromechanical relays. The total cost over the relay’s life-cycle, however, tips the scales back in favor of solid-state technology. Most of the operating cost advantages come from reductions in power consumption and a longer life-cycle for fewer relay replacements. Panasonic offers more than 300 different types of PhotoMOS optically-isolated relays, that meet a wide variety of electrical and package size requirements. The PhotoMOS products most suited to motor protection and other industrial uses include: • AQZ207 SIL package with 1 A load current. • AQY277A DIP4 SMD with 0.65 A load current. • And AQV252G with 2.5 A load current. Panasonic also offers signal relays, which are used for low level current switching, often below 2A but up to 40A. Some applications for signal relays include communications, AC control, security, measurement and control equipment, automotive devices and audio visual devices.
