Right when I saw that this hymn was a contender last month, I got really excited. I instantly knew what I wanted do with it. I've been wanting to use the loop pedal again for some time and this song had it written all over it. I was pretty pumped when it won.nnBesides knowing that I wanted to use the loop pedal, the main inspiration for the arrangement didn't come until learning more about the author.nnDid you know that this is not a Mormon children's song? It's in a lot of hymnals in a lot of religions. The lyrics were written by Fanny Crosby in the 1860's who called herself a "Primitive Presbyterian".nnShe went blind when she was six weeks old after a doctor applied some medicine to her eyes because of some discharge. One blog I read said that her father was distraught afterwards, saying, "What kind of life can a blind girl have? Who will want our precious Fanny?"nnTo answer his question, here's the kind of life she had: "Despite becoming blind at six weeks of age, due to a medical malpractice, Fanny Crosby went on to write over 8,000 hymns and was one of the most prolific hymnists in history. Born, Frances Jane Van Alstyne Crosby, in 1820, she was also known as the "Queen of Gospel Song Writers," and the "Mother of Modern Congregation Singing in America." She wrote so many hymns that she had to use over 200 different pseudonyms in her career because publishers were reluctant to have too many hymns by one person in their hymnbooks." But despite what she couldn't do, she focused on what she could do. And she did it a lot. 8,000 hymns?! That's insane. That equals one hymn a day for 22 years.nnFanny Crosby was a talented woman. But she was talented in areas that you and I aren't. (Assuming none of you are secretly writing a library of hymns at the moment). And we are probably talented in ways that she wasn't.nnBut in truth, we are all equally talented. We're just talented in different areas.nnFor some it might be music. For others it's leadership, or kindness, or friendship, or book smarts, or street smarts, or every other possible thing you can imagine.nnHeavenly Father knows each of us better than we know ourselves. More importantly, He knows what talents He blessed us with. It's up to us to find out what those talents are and how to use them.nnTake the guitar I'm playing in this one as an example. nnThat Ovation guitar has been wonderful to play in settings that might not be too kind on the guitar - e.g. campfires, travel, extremely cold temperatures. Basically anytime I didn't want to risk damaging another guitar, I would use this one. It's not a diss on the guitar. It's just that it has a plastic back. It can take it.nnNow imagine my surprise when it was the only guitar that gave the sound I was looking for with this arrangement. It's detuned a whole step but still had good intonation, for the most part. It has a punchiness and low end that I needed for this song that my Martin didn't have when I tried it on this arrangement. The plastic back also worked perfectly for banging out the bass drum part.nnThe Martin is my go-to guitar. It's just an all around high-quality instrument. I never in a million years thought I would choose the Ovation over it for one of these arrangements. But I did.nnThere's something all can give. Less

Talus MB-4H amphibious tractor Talus MB-4H is a four wheel drive launch tractor which was specifically designed for the RNLI, to launch and recover inshore lifeboats from beach launched lifeboat stations.[2] The Tractor is produced by the Britishcompany of Clayton Engineering Limited who are based in Knighton, Powys.[3] The tractor plays an important role and is reliable link within the operations required to be carry out the task of saving lives at sea. Design Brief[edit]Until the development of this tractor the RNLI had been relying on the adaptation of commercially available tractors which proved to be inefficient and costly. Clayton engineering worked in close liaison with the RNLI on a design brief specifically aimed at the ILB launch requirements. This brief included to be totally waterproof with an excellent ground clearance and the best steering ability possible. Design and Development[edit]Clayton’s design team developed a prototype at there facilities in Knighton which was tried and tested at several lifeboat station locations around the country to evaluate its performance at as many different working environments as possible. Once these trials had been completed successfully the first tractor was sent to New Brighton on the Wirral, Merseyside. Arriving in November 1990 the tractor and its carriage were used to launch the stations new Atlantic 21 inshore lifeboat.[4] Working protocols[edit]The MB-4H has been designed to work over varying beach environments and can easily launch and recover inshore lifeboats via a A85 DoDo (drive-on, drive-off) launch cradle/carriage. It will comfortably work at full power into up to 2 metres (6.6 ft) of calm water.[2] The tractor is divided into two sections with the front section housing the power unit, hydraulic oil tank for the front axle, hydraulic pumps, cooling systems and the fuel tank. The rear section houses the rear axle, hydraulic winch with 100 meters of cable, the operator and his/her controls, batteries, electronic control panel, and the drive gear. The driver's seat within the cockpit can face forward or rear, with duplicated controls front and back, allowing the operator flexibility during deployment or retrieval of the DoDo trailer and payload.[5] This allows the combination to drive to the launch site and then reverse round to launch the lifeboat into the sea. The rear facing controls have the addition of a third foot pedal which is the dead-man control for the winch. The MB-4H has an automatic hydrostatic transmission which gives the tractor an ever-variable ground speed which corresponds to engine speed and ground/sea-bed conditions. To give the tractor excellent handling ability, the vehicle has a pivot steer type with all electrical, mechanical and hydraulic links passing through central wire-reinforced hose. The design allows the tractor to have a steering articulation of 40 degrees to the left or right and results in a turning circle of only ten metres. Amphibious[edit]The tractor’s chassis and cockpit are water resistant and can be made water tight once the engine cooling side hatches have been closed on entering the water. The tractor will operate in broken water up to the depth of the air breather duct if required. The MB-4H’s engine compartment is completely water tight. In the event of the tractor becoming in-operable whilst in the water, The operator can leave the cockpit via a roof hatch and the tractor can then be battened down and left on the sea bed in up to a depth of 4.0 metres (13.1 ft). In this situation the cab is designed to allow entrée of sea water to prevent the tractor from floating away and causing only minimal damage to the vehicle, such as the wiper motors, exterior work lights etc. The tractor has been designed to encompass Extensive corrosion protection to protect from the very aggressive working environment of the sea water and beach conditions the tractor has to endure. Scott Dean McCurry is a Dallas singer-songwriter who has been paving his own path on the Texas Music Scene for nearly a decade. Influenced by a vast range of styles; Scott has continually pushed the envelope with his personal spin on contemporary rock n’ roll. In 2013, Scott decided to transform his “fist-pumping sunshine rock” into a unique version of Texas Country, exchanging funky-rhythms and synthesizers for pedal-steel and fiddle. Although he has embarked on a new genre, two things still remain consistent; “his catchy upbeat melodies that get stuck in your head”, and his “raucous, energy-filled live performances”. In the process, he opted to drop “McCurry”, as to not be confused with a recent American Idol winner with a strikingly similar name.nJust recently, Scott put the finishing touches on his new EP, “Re-Shuffle”. Although it is his 5th studio album, it is his first Country release. The tunes are full of carefree energy that will make any youthful spirit want to crack open a cold-beer and start singing along. It was his intent to make each tune on the record uplifting and fun.n“Country tends to have the ability to make people either really happy or really sad, I wanted people to hear this music and wish they were out on a Saturday Night. Each song started as a rough idea written on a bar napkin with a couple of buddies, so I wanted that same essence to be captured in the studio…”nAlthough Scott has primarily spent the majority of his career in a different music realm, he constantly found himself playing within the Texas Country Scene. Why don't BMWs use throttle valves?nWhile testing the BMW X1, we explore BMW's latest Valvetronic tech.nSubscribe for new videos every Wednesday! - https://goo.gl/VZstk7nnIn most gasoline cars, when you press the gas pedal you’re changing how much the throttle valve opens, a butterfly valve regulating the amount of air that enters the engine. In BMW engines with Vavletronic, however, a throttle valve is not necessary, and when you press the gas pedal you’re altering how much the intake valves open.nnThere is indeed a throttle butterfly valve in these engines, but it is simply used as a failsafe. Under normal operating conditions the valve will always remain fully open.nnThere’s a major efficiency benefit of regulating airflow this way, as it reduces the pumping losses of the engine, particularly at low load operations, or any time you’re not flooring it. With throttle bodies, you have close to atmospheric pressure on the filter side, and a vacuum on the intake manifold side. With Valvetronic, you’ll have near atmospheric pressure directly outside the intake valves, and thus the engine does not have as much resistance to pulling in air, making it more efficient. BMW claims this valve train design improves fuel consumption by at least 10% under practical driving conditions. nnThere are additional benefits to this system as well. With throttle bodies, once you floor it, you have to wait for the air to travel from the throttle body to the intake valve. By using the valves to regulate airflow, and already having nearly atmospheric pressure right outside the cylinder, the intake is immediate and thus the response is improved. nnAnother benefit at low load operations; the valves will only open about .5 mm to about 2 mm, and this small cross sectional area means the air fuel mixture will move rapidly, improving fuel atomization. By shoving the complete Eclipse drivetrain in the back of the Fiero, Mike has created an absolutely terrifying monster of a car. The engine runs a 68MM Precision Turbo and on 35 PSI makes 700 horsepower, but, thankfully, Mike agreed to dial it back to 20 PSI for my drive, with only 500 horsepower at the wheels.
