Around 1,000 cyclists staged a die-in in front of Transport for London's Blackfriars headquarters, Friday. The action was a demonstration against the lack of security for cyclists on the roads of the UK's capital. The protest blocked Blackfriars road in rush hour to demand that the Mayor's office respond to the call for safer streets. Protesters also blocked some roads outside the Transport for London's offices in Southwark. London's cyclists request more cycling infrastructure, at least two formal Board Members on the local body and "Amsterdam levels of money" spent on London's cycling safety. Donnacha Mccarthy, an activist of Stop the Killing of Cyclists organisation stated the demand for "real action from the London Mayor" and for Boris Johnson to "start spending real money on cyclists safety". The budget for cycling in London is currently £100 million (€121 million/$164 million), activists would like to see this increase to £600 (€723 million/$982 million) Six people have died whilst riding their bikes in November and a total of 14 over the year of 2013. Making this year more deadly than the last, where 13 cyclists died and several were injured in 2012. Two of the recent fatalities were killed on the cycle superhighways, which are advertised as safer and faster lanes. Less

Beheaded 'With a Machete'........The victim was 82-year-old Palmira Silva, BBC reported. Local Lauren Perkins told the Enfield Independent: "I was walking down the road when I saw a man with a big knife walking down the street. "Then I saw some police come down and they told me to get off the road. I just can't believe something like that would happen. It's just so shocking." Police distracted the man to stop him attacking anyone else while they evacuated houses, Metropolitan Police Commander Simon Letchford said. "There were a number of people resident. What we do know is that this male has gone along a number of the back gardens of this premises," he said. "Officers who attended have evacuated a number of those people from those premises to make them safe. During that period they distracted the man from carrying out any further attacks." He added that officers had smashed house windows to get people out after the man had been "cornered" in a house. "Whilst it is too early to speculate on what the motive behind this attack was I am confident, based on the information currently available to me, that it is not terrorist related," said Detective Chief Inspector John Sandlin who is leading the investigation. He declined to confirm reports that the woman had been beheaded but police said a man, 25, had been arrested on suspicion of murder by armed officers after they used a stun gun. One officer suffered a suspected broken wrist during the arrest. The reported nature of the killing had prompted speculation that the murder might be a terrorism incident after last year's gruesome murder of a British soldier in London and the recent release of videos by Islamic State jihadists showing two US journalists being beheaded apparently by a British national. "This is was a highly visible attack in broad daylight on a residential street," said Detective Chief Inspector Sandlin in a statement. "I can understand why this may cause people concern, however we are confident that we are not looking for anyone else at this stage." #financial_support_div{ display:none; position: absolute; width:300px; height:180px; margin-left: -150px; margin-top: -70px; /*- half of width and height */ top:50%; left:50%; padding: 5px; opacity:0.9; filter:alpha(opacity=90); z-index:1000; background-color:#000; color: white; } .close_box{ background: gray; color:#fff; padding:1px 3px; display:inline; position:absolute; right:1px; margin-right: -13px; margin-top: -13px; border-radius:3px; cursor:pointer; border: 1px #000 solid; } $(document).on("click",".close_box",function(){ $(this).parent().fadeTo(300,0,function(){ $(this).remove(); }); }); Loading the player ... This insane Mercedes has been making all the news headlines recently. The owner decided she wanted the car to stand out a bit more and spent £20,000 adding one million Swarovski crystals to the car! Driving through the affluent area of Knightsbridge the sparkling exterior turns heads wherever it goes, and in the evening the reflections that come off it, make it stand out even more. London is used to seeing some of the worlds craziest and most extravagant cars during the summer months, but this may have just outdone them all. What are your thoughts on this 'paint-job'?
