Instead of filming our tutorials in studio, Leroy Merlin and Publicis Italy have created a new format to achieve zero waste. They shot the tutorials inside charities to renovate them.nThey start from Casa della Carità, which is a shelter home in Milan. Instead of wasting the material used during the shooting , this same material and tutorial renovated the shelter homes. By doing this, They helped a Charity that hosts more than 1200 people monthly. They put Tutorials on YouTube, each of them ends with a call to action for other Charities. Tutorial for Good has become a format and it’s now available to all charities in need. More than 50 have already adhered to the project. Less

The Moonlight Sonata is corrupted in an assault by two robots. The Sonata represents the agony and grief suffered by the piano. For this performance two heat guns at a temperature of 650°C work the piano's wood on and on to the point of collapse. There are four cameras installed to capture the process in a time lapse with one frame every 6 seconds. The ongoing performance and the shooting took about 8 hours.nnRegie, Concept, Editing: Laurin DöpfnernCamera: Thomas SchwarznnLink to pictures of the set & stills:nhttps://www.flickr.com/photos/97631383@N02/sets/72157645740362675/ Less

The Shard is Europe's tallest building. The Shard's architect, Renzo Piano is quoted as saying:nn'Being an architect is a very dangerous job, because if you are wrong then of course everybody knows,'. Like any great artist, he is a risk taker, he bears all to more than 375,000 people daily who pass by close to The Shard, via London Bridge Station. nnI have been fascinated by The Shard, ever since I worked on the London summer Olympics and had it wink at me, temptingly, each morning as I opened my hotel curtains. One day, I knew I would be back ready to time-lapse from the inside of this marvellous structure, from The View From The Shard observation deck, and from street level. nnI've tried to keep things short and sweet with some additional views of London from vertigo-inducing locations. I hope you enjoy it and can one day yourself, visit this amazing crystalline-building. nnTech:n5Dii and iiinNikon 14-24nCanon 24 LiinManfrotto tripodsnnSoftware:nAdobe LightroomnLRTimelapsenAdobe After EffectsnAvid Media ComposernAdobe Media Encoder Less

We present Brain Automated Chorales (BACh), an adaptive brain-computer system that dynamically increases the levels of difficulty in a musical learning task based on pianists' cognitive workload measured by functional near-infrared spectroscopy. As users' cognitive workload fell below a certain threshold, suggesting that they had mastered the material and could handle more cognitive information, BACh automatically increased the difficulty of the learning task. We found that learners played with significantly increased accuracy and speed in the brain-based adaptive task compared to our control condition. Participant feedback indicated that they felt they learned better with BACh and they liked the timings of the level changes. The underlying premise of BACh can be applied to learning situations where a task can be broken down into increasing levels of difficulty. Less

Link to the project page: http://bit.ly/2aEECj7nn Basic Steps:n1) Download the Actions set from the link below and load that into your photoshop.nlink to downlaod: https://gum.co/BCbDqn2) Enable 'Button Mode' in the action panel to make it easier to interact with the actions. And remember to change the photoshop workspace to 'motion'.n3) Locate the plotagraph actions (colored with yellow)n4) Open your photo in the photoshopn5) Click the first action named "Step1: Prepare image"n6) Then press the second action named "Step2,3: Add region"n7) The action stops here and gets red. It is ready for you to define a region you want to add motion to. Use the selection tools and select a region. n8) Press the action "Step2,3: Add region" again, you will see that the selection edges disappear and the action gets red again. At this point you need to use transform tools (from the edit menu) and make a transformation. Start with a basic translation if its your first time. You will see that the previously selected region move on top of the background as you translate it. DO NOT mess with other tools and don't do anything else except applying a transformation. n9) Click on the action "Step2,3: Add region" again. It's color should get yellow meaning that you are done with this region. n10) Follow the numbers 5-9 if you need to add motion to other regions and add as many region as you want. n11) Press the action "Step 4: Animate" and it creates the Plotagraph for you which you can then save as GIF or render as a video. If you work with video, it's vital to understand how codecs work and how they change your image. In this tutorial, I over all of the big concepts behind codecs, breaking it down into understandable pieces. While the nitty-gritty of compression algorithms can get complicated, all of the main ideas are quite simple.nnHere's an overview of the topics covered:nn - What a codec is - And how it differs from a container.n - Different types of codecs - And why I frequently use 4 different codecs on a single project.n - Bit Depth - What it means and why it matters.n - Chroma Subsampling - 4:4:4, 4:2:2, and 4:2:0, and when it becomes an issue.n - Spatial Compression and Blocking - One of the most common artefacts you see with normal work.n - Temporal Compression - Long-GOP codecs, inter-frame compression, and ALL-I codecs.n - Lossless vs. Lossy compression - How image compression differs from data compression.n - Bit Rate - How to calculate bit rates and the differences between kbps/kBps/Mbps/MBps.n - Raw - Briefly, the difference between Raw, compressed, and uncompressed video.nnTake a look at the companion post on Philipbloom.net as well!
