When the German Premium shoe brand sent me some of their fantastic product, I was instantly impressed with the attention to detail. The shoes are chic to look at, and fantastically made. If you add to this the incredibly well thought out boxes that double as a display case it dawned on me that these are shoes to be enjoyed of works of art - so what would happen if they were displayed in an Art Gallery?nTo test this, I displayed them in the Sydney Salerno Gallery, and the shoes hadn't been on display for long before an art loving customer was captivated by the shoes. She had gone into the gallery to look at paintings, but the shoes were the thing that drew her attention. "So I am now no longer a lighting designer, I am a fashion designer, okay?"nn"That's been a fascinating experience of diving into a much bigger infrastructure and going in there with a very naive view but also a very different view on sportswear."nnHe adds: "It's been a riot working in this completely new playground of a different typology of goods, in which I can use some of the same ideas but in a completely new world."nnDixon's collection, which was on display amongst the steam trains at Milan's Museum of Science and Technology as part of MOST, includes underwear, trousers, shirts, shoes and waterproof jackets that fold easily and can be packed efficiently. Dixon also designed a coat that doubles up as a sleeping bag.nn"Adidas started off with a bag and then I thought, I'm not just going to do a bag, I'm going to fill that bag with everything that I need for Milan," Dixon explains.nn"So I started thinking about my personal problems. I always forget to pack the right number of pants or socks, or I forget that there's going to be a volcano and I'll get trapped in Milan and so I'll need a sleeping bag [a reference to the 2010 volcanic eruption in Iceland, which suspended air travel for weeks]."nnHe concludes: "All of those adventures I had in Milan went into that collection. And with more and more people spending time in their vehicles, being familiar with how to change your tire is an essential part of automobile know-how. nnIn this episode of D-I-Why Not? supported by Leatherman, our friends Rachel, James and their little yellow bus walk us through the simple steps of putting on your spare in hopes of preventing any wasted time waiting for a little roadside help.nnSteps:nn1. Scout a level and secure spot, away from traffic, to do the dirty work.nn2. Make sure your car is in Park and the Emergency Break is engaged. For your safety, also flip on your hazard lights.nn3. Block the tires with chocks if you got ‘em. Any heavy item will do.nn4. Situate your jack directly below the jack points of your car. These are usually located directly behind the front tire or directly in front of the back tire and are always metal points. Do NOT use any place that is plastic.nn5. Use the jack to support the car. Do not lift it up quite yet.nn6. Loosen lug nuts, turning counterclockwise. This will require a tool that allows a lot of torque; a cross wrench is best. Do not remove the nuts yet.nn7. Now lift your car off the ground just enough to get a tire off and on.nn8. Finish removing the lug nuts, making sure to store them in a safe spot, where they won’t get lost.nn9. Remove the damaged tire.nn10. Place your spare on the empty bolts.nn11. Hand tighten the lug nuts as best your can by hand, making sure to keep the spare tire flush with the tire hub.nn12. Lower the car back down to the supporting level at which it previously sat.nn13. Use the wrench-and your body weight- to tighten those lug nuts on the best you can. Push down on your cross wrench.nn14. Now lower the jack so the car is back on the ground. nn15. Remove the jack from under the car.nn16. Do one last tightening round on the nuts.nn17. Store your spare in its appropriate place.nn18.
