A new video has surfaced online showing what appears to be the aftermath of a massacre by the ISIL militants in an open market in Iraq. Viewer discretion is advised as what you are about to see contains graphic images. Press TV cannot independently verify the authenticity of the footage. But the video was seemingly shot in a local bazaar in the city of Mosul. It shows people hysterically screaming and running around. There are women and children among the dead bodies. In his opening speech Uzbek President Islam Karimov said the development of tourism would be impossible without ‘ensuring peace, security and political and economic stability in the world’. In spite of ongoing global problems worldwide tourism did, in fact, increase by more than expected in the first half of 2014, up by more than 5%. The Secretary-General of the UN’s World Tourism Organization, Taleb Rifai said: “Tourism is a very important sector, very important human activity in the life of people today, we are underestimating what it is doing to the lives of people, how much it benefits, how much income, how many jobs it is creating. So it was an eye opener to all decision-makers to take tourism seriously.” For Uzbekistan this world forum opened additional opportunities, attracting investment and showcasing its stunning, historic sights. It was also an occasion to charm visitors with the famous Uzbek hospitality. “The organization of this conference in Samarkand will chart the way to attract more tourists to Uzbekistan and particularly to Samarkand,” said Farrukh Rizaev, Chairman of ‘Uzbektourism’. “And, what’s more, to make the wider public aware of the city’s role in the field of tourism and its significance in the Great Silk road project.” The open-air market has a special place in Central Asian culture. TORONTO, The family of a 21-year-old Toronto man has filed a lawsuit against Toronto police, alleging he was violently assaulted by several officers during a mistaken arrest at a west end parking lot that was videotaped by a bystander. "This young man did nothing wrong. He posed no threat to anyone," said Michael Smitiuch, of Smitiuch Injury Law PC, one of the lawyers representing the Bola family. "We believe the video shows an appalling lack of judgment and excessive police force that cannot be justified under any circumstances." On November 1st, 2015 at about 8:00 a.m., 21-year-old Santokh Bola was on his way to the family store, India Bazaar, to help his grandfather. He was getting out of his car at a parking lot at 2645 Islington Avenue, when two officers approached him at gunpoint. It's alleged that officers, acting on information about an attempted burglary in the area, pinned Bola to the ground, delivering a series of kicks, knee strikes and punches to his face, head and body. He pleaded with officers to speak with his grandfather. Bola was treated at Etobicoke General Hospital for serious head injuries, emotional trauma and lacerations and abrasions to the face. Smitiuch alleges in the Statement of Claim that the four arresting officers failed to follow procedure, that they violently assaulted Santokh Bola, applying excessive force without reasonable or probable grounds. It's also alleged that officers failed to recognize that Bola has an intellectual disability and act accordingly. No charges were laid against Bola, who was eventually released from police custody. "Video has become a powerful tool in holding police accountable," said Ken Byers, of Daley, Byers Criminal Lawyers, co-counsel for the Bola family. "Thanks to a bystander who recorded this disturbing incident, we're able to see what happens when those in a position of trust cross the line."   Less

With Russian sanctions against Turkey coming into force now just days away on January 1 in the bazaar the cost of a dispute with Moscow has been counted up, and it is a cost Turkey can ill afford. On a trip to Belgrade Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu was keen to find alternative markets for Turkish products, but also appeared keen to begin the long road back to normal relations with the Russians. For the moment Russia is refusing to talk until, at the very least, apologies are offered for its dead pilot. “We had good relations with Russia until this event, and until Russia intervened in Syria. Relations were improved during AKP’s term in power. We can only hope that good relations will be established again,” he said. Moscow has attacked the current Turkish government as being “accomplices of terrorists”, helping ISIL and profiting from its oil trading. And it is just getting started with sanctions. “We believe there is a need for an appropriate response to unfriendly actions, and we began giving such a response several days ago. There will be further actions, which will be announced, the prime minister has already spoken about them,” said Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich. Shoppers in Moscow might be the first to feel the effects. Much of the city’s fruit and vegetables comes from Turkey.
