Having spent almost 20-years as a photojournalist I’ve always had a passion for capturing beautiful, powerful, timeless moments of people with my camera. As I’ve sat back and watched the evolution of photography from film cameras, to digital cameras, to smartphone cameras and came to notice a significant, and to me, negative correlation between how people had to hold their smartphone to make a picture and how holding your smartphone in the standard position – up in front of your face – directly impacted how the subject matter you were trying to make a picture of changed out of their natural state into something less real, or stopped what they were doing altogether Adults do this, children do this, heck even animals do this. Holding up your smartphone camera in the standard way that the design of smartphone cameras forces us to, impacts both what we’re willing to shoot and they subject matter of what we’ve decided to shoot.nnWhile I had been aware of this barrier with smartphone photography for some time, it wasn’t until my wife Angela was diagnosed with late-stage cancer two years ago that I made it my mission to find some type of solution. It was Angie’s life threatening diagnosis that motivated me to build the COVR Photo case, not because I suddenly needed money, but because we have three boys and if they lost their mom to cancer I didn’t want them to have a shoebox worth of pictures filled of missed moments, posed pictures, and ‘almost’ great pictures. I wanted my boys, their future wives, and their own children to be able to have pictures and videos that captured the beautiful and laughable moments that happen in a flash and then vanish on a daily basis.nnI drew on my years as a photojournalist and Angie’s daily life to come up with the key features for the idea taking shape in my head;nn1) It couldn’t be obvious, because being obvious while you’re taking pictures ruins pictures.n2) Whatever I was going to build was was going to have to be built into a protective case already on Angie’s smartphone – if it wasn’t on her phone she’d never get to it fast enough to catch the special moments with her boys.n3) It couldn’t limit the great camera technology that is being built into our smartphones – I didn’t want people to have to choose between my invention or the great quality they were already getting in their phonen4) It had to be sleek enough to fit in a pants pocket – if it could fit comfortably there it could be kept anywhere.n5) And one of the most important features was that the final product, the finished picture or video quality had to be excellent – what would be the point of inventing something to capture lasting memories if when you went to look at them years later they were too pixelated or out of focus.nnWith the motivation of the trials within my own family, the insight from years as a pro-photographer, and a love for beautiful candid pictures, I invented the COVR Photo Sliding Lens Case that allows you to hold your smartphone as if you were typing an email or a text message, except there's a lens built into the case that's actually pointing towards your kids, family or friends allowing you to take their picture without alerting them that you are so you can capture all the special pictures or videos you want without ruining them. The built-in lens actually slides back and forth so if you want to use your smartphone camera you can quickly and easily. While its slim and sleek design allows you to carry it in your pants pocket the plastic I used is high-grade and extremely durable to protect your smartphone. The prism is that I used is molded, shaped, and coated to very specific high-quality optics and built to such rigid specifications so that it is both durable and final picture quality is not sacrificed.nnI’ve now shipped almost 2,500 COVR Photo cases around the world, but we’re a long way of from seeing many more people see the value in a tool that will help you to capture the special picture of those fleeting moments that everyone loves, but so few are able to capture.nnYou can learn more at - www.covrphoto.com Less
