In response to that action, one Russian official tweeted, "I propose that the United States delivers its astronauts to the ISS with the help of a trampoline.” Since NASA shut down it’s shuttle program, American astronauts have been hitching rides to the International Space Station with their cosmonaut counterparts. While the sanctions put several other Russian rocket services at risk, experts don’t believe that the country will actually pull the plug on its arrangement with NASA. One analyst pointed out that at 60 million dollars per person, they’re just not in a financial position to cut off access to US astronauts. The same official who recommended trampoline travel warned that US will not emerge from the actions unscathed. He feels that the decision to compromise the Russian space industry will come back to haunt NASA and American space efforts at large. That sentiment was echoed by the director of a Moscow think tank who told the press, "This is a very sensitive issue since our defense industry was completely unprepared for such developments. Both sides will suffer…” Less

A Soyuz capsule carrying three crew members from the International Space Station (ISS) has successfully landed in Kazakhstan wrapping up a six-month stay in space. The space station partnership, headed by the US and Russia, had been relatively untouched by the rhetoric and economic sanctions stemming from the Ukraine crisis. But Rogozin Dmitry, Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister, said that he would reject a US and European request to extend the ISS programme beyond 2020. “...the Federal Space Agency, our colleagues – the Academy of Sciences and the Advanced Research Fund – are ready to offer some new strategic projects aimed at the further development of the Russian space programme after 2020, so at the moment we think we will need the ISS only until 2020,” Rogozin said. The plan to part ways on a project supposed to end the “space race” underlines how relations between the Cold War rivals have declined since the start of the Ukraine crisis. China has landed a rover on the moon, and NASA is reportedly monitoring its activity using the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, or LRO. The Yutu, or Jade Rabbit lunar rover is China’s first time landing on the moon, and the first soft landing on the moon’s surface since the former Soviet Union sent their Luna 24 mission there in 1976. China’s Chang’e 3 mission, which includes the Jade Rabbit rover is named after characters in Chinese legend that travel to the moon. NASA scientists operating the LRO have reportedly added the Jade Rabbit as a target for observation, to see how it affects the surface of the moon. The Yutu Rover has started its three month mission to gather data using radar and x-rays to see under the surface of the moon at depths of up to around 330 feet, along with a panoramic camera to capture images and send them back to scientis Less
