**Lyrics:nnUhh huh huhnnThey said, "You're a pretty girlnWhat's in your head, it doesn't matter.nBind your chest, take your T.nWhat's your sex? That's all that matters."nnJust another phase, pretending the pain away.nThis time I'm gonna make a soundnwithout falling down, down, down.nnPretty Hurts, we take the knife so we prove our worth.nPerfection is a disease of a nation, pretty hurts, pretty hurts.nPretty Hurts, we take the knife so we prove our worth.nWe're told to fix something but can't fix what we don't need.nWe don't always need the surgery.nnBig Breast, Flat Chest.nPeople ask, "Isn't that better?"nPenis tuck, Clit pump.nThey say, "Realness is better."nnJust another phase, pretending the pain away.nThis time I'm gonna make a soundnwithout falling down, down, down.nnPretty Hurts, we take the knife so we prove our worth.nPerfection is a disease of a nation, pretty hurts, pretty hurts.nPretty Hurts, we take the knife so we prove our worth.nWe're told to fix something but can't fix what we don't need.nWe don't always need the surgery.nnAin't there no doctor who proves who you are meant to be.nYou do whatever you need to make yourself feel free.nWe don't all, we don't all need the surgery.nI don't need the whole surgery.nChoosin' sides and denial can only take you so far,n'Specially when you already cool wit who you are.nDon't hold a shattered mirror that divides between a boy or a girl.nnPretty Hurts, we take the knife so we prove our worth.nPerfection is a disease of a nation, pretty hurts, pretty hurts.nPretty Hurts, we take the knife so we prove our worth.nWe're told to fix something but can't fix what we don't need.nWe don't always need the surgery.nnWhen you're all by yourselfnand you're lying on your bed, nreflection stares right into you.nAre you happy with yourself?nnYou depolorize the genders.nThe binary has been shed.nAre you happy with yourself?nAm I happy with myself?nnYes.nUhh huh huhnnSooooo was thinking about doing a cover of Pretty Hurts by Beyonce...well that didn't happen.nInsteaaaaaaad, I decided to do a rendition of the song deemed "Pretty Hurts: A Lyrical Critique on the Enforcement of Binary Surgeries"nI rewrote some of the lyrics so that they addressed the notion that in order to "completely" transition from one gender to another or live as your gender then you have to get both top surgery and bottom surgery.nAs someone who generally plans to only get top surgery, I have no doubt that I'm a dude and anyone else's doubt don't concern me. This is also true for any trans person (binary or no) who decides to not get surgery or hormones, take solely hormones, or get one of the surgeries. You are whatever gender you say you are along the spectrum, even if that means no gender at all. You have my respect and I openly validate your identity and respect your transition however it goes for you.nMay you know that you are who you are and no amount or lackthereof body modification will define that any more or less.nEnjoy!nn(P.S. - I was sooooooo tired and short wired while recording this so I want to apologize for my language. And the length. I refused to stop the tape again, I wasn't about that life this time around.) Less
