Because everybody knows it's a machine, but everybody is happy to be fooled, to feel, to be mesmerised by something which is odd. Because when he stops moving, they see, 'Oh, but it's only a machine.' But once he starts expressing himself, saying what he feels, people feel for him." W/S Crowd W/S Theatre de la Foudre SCRIPT A robot played one of the key roles in a Franco-Japanese adaptation of Franz Kafka's "The Metamorphosis" in the French town of Le Petit-Quevilly on Wednesday. The play, directed by Japanese director Oriza Hirata, deals with the protagonist of "The Metamorphosis," Gregor, being transformed into a robot as opposed to an insect-like creature as in the original novella. The robot was created by Hiroshi Ishiguro. According to actress Irena Jacob, who plays the mother of Gregor, the audience is able to empathise with the robot thanks to "the illusion" that theatre creates.
