It was a hot and sultry Sunday despite the cool weather. Reason: Controversy queen Poonam Pandey was in the city to promote her debut Bollywood film Nasha, due for release this Friday. Believe it or not, Poonam says, “I’ve refused nearly 40 films, a few item numbers, and offers to attend reality shows before I signed Nasha. I think this film is perfect for me.” More than erotic, Nasha is a complete package with soothing songs. “It’s a story of a 18-year-old boy who falls in love with an older woman, Nasha. “I play Nasha, a teacher in the film. You can guess what would happen if Poonam Pandey turns a teacher!” she says with a hearty laugh. “It was fun to romance a young boy!” Moving towards the latest controversy surrounding the posters of Nasha which drew flak from Mumbaikars, and angered them enough to burn the posters and lodge a police complaint. Was she embarrassed? “Well, not embarrassed. Many people have liked the trailer. I’m definitely not happy with people burning my posters. But I must say my posters are much better than some other vulgar posters.” She adds, “It was never my intention to hurt anybody, but I don’t mind apologising if it has.” Her tweets and pictures create a buzz as also nuisance value. “You can call me a controversy queen or attention seeker, but I always take things positively. Even to be an attention seeker you need to have talent!” “I’d love to act in Telugu films if offered a good script. I love Chiranjeevi and Nagarjuna. I love Chiru’s dances very much. In Bollywood, I like Salman Khan.” What is her reaction to be compared with porn star-turned-actress Sunny Leone. A miffed Poonam replies, “It’s very silly and I’m fed up of being compared with a porn star (Sunny Leone).” Talking about her upcoming films, “I’m in talks with a few filmmakers which I can’t reveal. Right now, my focus is only on lead roles!”And controversies, may we add. Less
