Baby Yevgeny Esekyan suffers from Werdnig-Hoffmann disease - a genetic disease which weakens organ functions, without artificial support it can induce a fatal collapse of the respiratory system. Doctors took the decision to evacuate the hospital after it was hit by artillery fire last week. Yevgeny's parents, Victoria and Mikhail Esekyan, said that they would like to evacuate their child to Russia. The only doctors left on duty in the hospital were dedicated to treating the baby, who will be taken to safety. Hundreds of children have left Eastern Ukraine following an ongoing Ukrainan army offensive in the region. Footage of the vehicle striking the child is obstructed and the tragic incident is not visible. Two mistakes have ended a young child's life; a mother who has not held her child or sufficiently looked for other vehicles as she crossed the road against the lights, and a speeding driver who might be condemned for wanting to save time at the risk of others and not slowing down in the presence of stopped vehicles. The anguish and emotion of the mother in the dash cam vehicle is heart-breaking ..... Thank you to Cas for providing the footage under such painful and difficult circumstances. Somebody called 911 as several citizens rushed up to help. At least two people pulled out their cameras to record. Chico police officer David Bailey arrived on the scene to save the day, ordering Rosales to climb out of the car. "Get out of the car now!" Bailey yelled. But Rosales was concerned about his dog. He also suggested that perhaps he could crawl out the back if somebody would open the trunk. But Bailey was concerned that the building was about to collapse on him. "I don't want to be killed because you're getting you're dog," he shouted. But Rosales was still shaken and at his age, not very spry where he could just hop out of the car. So Bailey grabbed Rosales' wrist and twisted it behind his back, ordering the man to get out of the car as if that would make it any easier for him to climb out. She is understood to have died hours later being turned away from the clinic in the Liberian capital Monrovia. The Dallas hospital treating Thomas Eric Duncan has been criticised for initially sending Duncan home despite him saying he had come from Liberia. Three days later he returned and was then isolated. His condition is now being described as ‘serious but stable.’‘ Jennifer Lighter Fisher, a Pediatric Infectious Diseases doctor, said the disease could spread: “Every hospital in the United States needs to be prepared. It is possible that we will get more cases in the United States, but again, there is no risk to the general public.” Duncan is understood to have come into contact with 20 people including five school children at four different schools in Dallas. All those who have been identified are being monitored at their homes by US health officials. Amidst panic, parents have begun pulling their children out of the schools involved. Tonya Griggs, a parent at Tasby Middle School said she was alarmed to hear a child at the school could have been infected with Ebola:.“I was scared like I didn’t want him here. I’d rather him be at home where that I know, you know, in the house safe until they get it under control. Make sure everything is good before he comes back,” she said. A Liberian national, Duncan contracted the virus while in the West African country. He tested positive in Dallas on September 30, ten days after travelling from the Liberian capital Monrovia via Brussels. Doctors used an experimental drug to treat his condition, but his health continued to deteriorate. News of his demise came as Washington announced stricter airport security measures for passengers arriving from countries affected by Ebola. The announcement will add to the growing global unease surrounding the virus as euronews Washington correspondent Stefan Grobe explained: “There was already a high level of anxiety among many Americans and the death in Texas only fans the Ebola fears. Despite assurances from authorities that the virus is under control, I’ve heard people questioning whether to use public transport or whether to send their children to school. It means longer delays, but most passengers do not seem to mind. “It is worth it,” said a Nigerian man at JFK. “Whatever you can do to prevent something drastic is worth it. Any inconvenience we go through, it will be worth it, for safety.” One man arriving home from Cambodia said: “I don’t see why there would be any issues at all with that. I’d rather them be safe, at least our border be safe.” But screening is not likely to have prevented the Liberian man Thomas Duncan from entering the country. The US’s first Ebola fatality, he had no symptoms on arrival. His family is angry that he was not admitted during a first visit to the emergency room. He was only hospitalised two days later, and died within a week. Josephus Weeks, the nephew of Thomas Duncan, told reporters: “When you have a patient that’s running a consistent fever of 103, even me as a medic, I wouldn’t let you out of my ambulance unless I stabilised you and got that fever down to a point, or we do a test. Especially saying that you come from Africa — Liberia – with a thick accent.” Authorities say the Duncan case now means that doctors and hospitals are more alert to the possibility that a patient could be suffering from Ebola.   Less
