Terraforming depicts a crystal planet that has been discovered in the galaxy. It follows a young cartographer's journey to the planet, where he engineers the environment to be habitable for humans using various tools of exploration. The Dune Clock tells the time with 3 million precision cut crystals; the minutes pass with falling crystals and the hour with the digital numbers. The Dune Table creates an array of miniature landscapes using sound frequencies ranging from 100Hz-10,000Hz demonstrating the planet's ever shifting surface.nnThe first ever object to be designed by man 1.7 million years ago was a flint hand axe. Flint has the same molecular structure as a crystal and they both consist of silica. In the presentation shown here, at the 2014 Cinekid Festival in Amsterdam, the kiosk is accompanied by a large rear-projection. nnSome twenty scenes (transformations) have been developed, with more planned. This video presents live demonstrations of ten different scenes from the installation, including: nn • "Plus One" (0:06): The hand obtains an additional finger. n • "Minus One" (0:16): The hand has one finger omitted. n • "Variable Finger Length" (0:22): The fingers' length changes over time.n • "Meandering Fingers" (0:28): The fingers take on a life of their own.n • "Procrustes" (0:36): All fingers are made the same length.n • "Lissajous" (0:44): The palm is warped in a periodic way. n • "Breathing Palm" (0:52): The palm inflates and deflates. n • "Vulcan Salute" (1:00): The third and fourth fingers are cleaved.n • "Angular Exaggeration" (1:03): Finger angles are amplified. n • "Springers" (1:12): Finger movements are exaggerated by springy physics.nnThe Augmented Hand Series was commissioned by the Cinekid Festival with support from the Mondriaan Fund.
