This was definitely a unique opportunity to work on something very different. Bot & Dolly / Autofuss brought me in to do the robot animation...

This was definitely a unique opportunity to work on something very different. Bot & Dolly / Autofuss brought me in to do the robot animations for the spot. I animated the moves in Maya, using Bot & Bolly's Maya plugin designed specifically for their robots. This allowed me to choreograph the bulk of the moves that were then handed off to 4 motion designers, each working on a section of the spot in C4D, as well as exporting the final moves to be used on set and programmed into the robots... all without hitting the car or injuring the actor. There were 3 robots and a turntable to animate in every shot. His records about spiritualist movements and impermanence consciousness were maximalist displays of bombastic trance signifying life-affirming energy, while his earlier focus on vibrating drumheads revealed the sonically electrical qualities of acoustic instruments; an unexpected current within dormant material.nnSimilarly, his new solo effort, 'Tongues,' is an invigorating and ecstatic record of transference. Within it, voices of desperate meaning speak and howl in unknown languages, while vibrating skin, string, and metal transport them from their obscure origin. Together they project a kind of bodily singing of the world set to pummeling and relentless rhythms.nnArranged and performed by Mueller using various bass drums, percussion and his own voice, the record also features contributions from CORY ALLEN and WILLIAM RYAN FRITCH. Allen’s harmonium, tanpura and ceremonial breath (learned from shamans in the Amazon rainforest) add a tonal depth and trance-like energy. Fritch, who many will recognize from Mueller’s previous Death Blues 'Ensemble' record, adds sarangi, played through a piano as a sort of resonant amplifier, creating a ghostly melodic sense that enriches the record’s driving rhythms with a sense of timelessness.nn'Tongues' is released on 140 gm black vinyl in a deluxe matte package with metallic and spot gloss print in an edition of 500 copies. Our aim was to create a piece beyond the standard performance video. We presented the artists as 3D scans and fused them with digitally created environment. The vibe of the track is intense, bit aggressive. We were trying to recreate this atmosphere as a visual experience and produce powerful imagery, where the invisible violence is transformed into personal strength.nThe video may seem dark at first, but this darkness is not hopeless, it’s a state of matter where one can be reborn and reclaim their mastery. We were envisioning an aftermath of a battle, some sort of weird cathartic occurrence.nWe decided to put the strong female characters at the front of the piece, as we thought they would be the best at translating the energy of the song and convey the message we wanted to communicate through the video. When Writer and Director Steven Zaillian approached Method’s design team to pitch on the main title sequence for his HBO miniseries, we couldn’t have been more excited. After exploring multiple creative directions for the titles, we landed on a concept that would require multiple techniques to achieve our unique aesthetic. We began by shooting original New York City photography, followed by exploring various techniques in photogrammetry, dynamic simulations, projection mapping, as well as utilizing strong images from the show itself.
