At least four people have been killed in two separate US-led airstrikes in eastern Afghanistan. The overnight air raids took place in Wardak province. Local officials say the victims are all Taliban militants with two commanders among them. Such airstrikes are mostly carried out by the US military in Afghanistan with pilotless planes involved. The US says it targets militants in drone attacks but figures on the ground show many civilians have lost their lives in the process. Less

This is led 50/50 light strip lighting that saves me money. I have them on the ceiling in the living room, kitchen, etc. The strips are 5 meters long and I have a rough ceiling texture, so I used plastic cable brackets and nailed them up. The wires hang down, but it is what it is. It cuts the electric bill and can be powered by a 12 volt battery, so when the power goes out my house is well lit. I took a useless motorcycle battery that would not turn over the bike and after 4 hrs, I checked the charge on the battery and it showed a full charge. Less

A new poll shows that a majority of people across the world are opposed to a possible U-S-led military attack on Syria. Some 13-thousand people have responded to the poll conducted by Press TV. Some 93 percent of the respondents have said “NO” to a possible U-S military intervention. Only about 7 percent of the participants were open to attack on Syrian soil. Nearly 24 percent of the respondents were Americans. Around 18 percent of the participants were from the U-K, Canada, Germany and Australia. Less

At the end of a march led by Alex Jones in Dallas the remaining 80 protesters were pushed by 20 police officers, allegedly from Home Security, as they approached Dealey Plaza on Friday. Festivities were being held at the plaza to commemorate the anniversary of the John F Kennedy assassination. The march began earlier with Alex Jones leading about 300 supporters and fans around Dealey Plaza, with many chanting, "No more lies", "Freedom", "1776" and "Liars". The protesters called for a revolution and demanded their right to the freedom of speech. Jones along with other local celebrities were demanding that they "will not relate with any of the bill of rights or constitution." Less

Turkey says it will NOT allow a US-led coalition to attack ISIL militants in neighboring Iraq and Syria from Turkish air bases. A government official said Ankara will not take part in any combat operations against the ISIL terrorists, but will concentrate on humanitarian operations. He said his country can open the Injirlik Air Base in the south, only for logistical and humanitarian operations, and not for any airstrikes. ISIL militants have held hostage 49 Turkish nationals, including diplomats and children, since June. They were abducted from the Turkish consulate in Mosul. Back in 2003, Turkey refused to let Washington put US boots in the country to invade Iraq from the north. This triggered a crisis between the two allies at the time. Less

US led airstrikes have targeted oil refineries controlled by Islamic State militants in eastern Syria. The US military said they were prefabricated structures and constructed off-site so they can be transported and made operational quickly. They were capable of producing millions in revenue and have been providing fuel for the ISIL’s operations. Meanwhile, British Prime Minister David Cameron speaking at the United Nations in New York has said he wants Britain to join the airstrikes after the Iraqi government requested London’s help in fighting the militants. Parliament is due to vote on the action this Friday. Belgium and the Netherlands are also set to discuss joining the US-led coalition. Less

US Central Command has released video footage showing what it says was an airstrike against the Mayadin Modular Refinery in Syria that took place on Wednesday (September 24). The US military announced on Wednesday that it was bombing small oil refineries in eastern Syria intended to undermine ISIL’s ability to refinance itself through oil sales. Amateur video footage purported to show an alliance warplane flying near Deir al-Zor city has emerged on a social media website. It shows plumes of black smoke rising in the distance after what is said to have been Wednesday’s airstrike by US-led forces in Mayadin. Meanwhile in northern Iraq near Kirkuk, Kurdish Pershmerga forces stand by in bunkers on the front line. They wait for airstrikes to weaken ISIL and prepare the way for their advance on the ground. To help with the air operation, Denmark’s prime minister has said it will send seven F-16 fighter jets to Iraq to dislodge ISIL militants. The Peshmerga bunkers, marked by Kurdish flags, stand only metres away from ISIL-held territory. Less

American fighter jets have struck at ISIL targets in Syria near the Kurdish town of Kobani. US Central Command released a short video showing one of the strikes from an F-15E fighter jet. CentCom said the attack was on an ISIL compound near the Turkey border. The militant group the al-Nusra Front has denounced the US-led coalition’s strikes on Syria, calling them a “war against Islam” and vowing to retaliate against Western and Arab countries involved. The air strikes that include some Gulf and European nations killed dozens of Nusra fighters on the first day of the military campaign last week. There are reports that the attacks have prompted the extremists to change tactics, avoiding conspicuous convoys and planting their black self-proclaimed Islamic State flags on civilian homes. The US says the coalition campaign is aimed at “degrading and destroying” militants who have captured large parts of Iraq and Syria. Less

Australia has announced it will send two air force planes to support the US-led military coalition in Iraq. Prime Minister Tony Abbott said the planes would be carrying out surveillance and would not yet launch airstrikes. He added they were waiting for clearance from the Iraqi government and would then decide whether to join air strikes against Islamic State militants. “Because ISIL has global ambitions, our international security and our national security are indivisible. At all times though, the government will respond in a prudent and proportionate way,” Abbot told parliament. On Tuesday, Britain dropped bombs on ISIL targets in northern Iraq for the first time, which are understood to have killed a number of fighters. Officials said the attacks were in support of Kurdish forces fighting the jihadists Kurdish Peshmerga troops have been battling ISIL on three fronts: close to the Syrian border, north of Mosul and south of the key oil hub Kirkuk. The US-led coalition has carried out sustained airstrikes against the militant group ISIL, as the battle for control of Kobani on the Syrian-Turkish border intensifies. While aircraft attacked from the sky Syrian Kurds launched a ground offensive against extremist positions. Dutch war planes saw action overnight attacking an ISIL convoy as Commodore Theo ten Haaf explained: “There were pickup trucks, four wheel drives with an open platform at the back carrying a heavy machine gun. The weapon was being used to attack the Peshmerga.” As fighting rages in Kobani the Turkish army remains poised on its side of the border, but has so far refrained from any intervention despite parliamentary authorisation to do so. The lack of movement from Turkey is a cause of deep frustration in Washington, with Secretary of State John Kerry making numerous phone calls to Ankara for clarification. The UN says that if Kobani falls a bloodbath will ensue coupled with a humanitarian tragedy. Less

As Kurdish defenders battle ISIL on the ground in the Syrian border town of Kobani, the American-led air campaign has been given permission to use Turkish bases, according to US National Security Adviser Susan Rice. Turkey won’t engage in military action itself unless the coalition also confronts Syrian President Assad. “We have not asked for the Turks to send ground forces of their own into Syria,” Rice told NBC’s “Meet the Press” programme. She also talked down any speculation about the deployment of US ground troops. “This is not a campaign that requires or even would benefit from American ground troops in combat again. The Iraqi prime minister, the government of Iraq, have said very plainly they don’t want American troops in combat,” Rice said. The top US military officer though, General Martin Dempsey, has suggested that Washington could increase its role “advising and assisting” Iraqi troops on the ground in the future. Turkish tanks continue to look on as gun battles rage in mainly Kurdish Kobani. Ankara’s refusal to intervene has infuriated Turkey’s own Kurdish minority which rose up in the past week in rioting in which 38 people were killed. On Sunday Iraq saw dozens of deaths when the jihadists struck in a series of bombings in a Kurdish-controlled town in the north. A blast also claimed the life of a provincial police commander in the West. Less
