Europe’s space freighter ATV Jules Verne burning up over an uninhabited area of the Pacific Ocean at the end of its mission. ATV Jules Verne was the first of ESA’s Automated Transfer Vehicles to bring supplies to the International Space Station and help keep its orbit 400 km above our planet. A final deorbit burn at 14:58 CEST on 29 September 2008 slowed Jules Verne’s velocity by 70 m/s and spacecraft entered the upper atmosphere at an altitude of 120 km at 15:31 CEST. It broke up at an altitude of 75 km with the remaining fragments falling into the Pacific some 12 minutes later. The planned reentry into the atmosphere was filmed from a DC-8 aircraft as part of an observation campaign including recording from the Station itself, as well as from two specially-equipped observation planes located in the vicinity of the ATV’s flight path in the skies above the South Pacific. The campaign served to determine whether the vehicle’s breakup matched computer modelling. Less

Japan Daily Express Nov 14, 2013 A robot being controlled remotely has identified the exact spot that has been leaking highly radioactive water at the damaged No. 1 reactor at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant. The radiation level of the water in the area was detected at 0.9 to 1.8 sieverts an hour. The robot was directed to the lower level of the reactor’s containment vessel where the contaminated water used to cool the molten nuclear fuel is located. The high radiation levels have made it nearly impossible to explore the area but the success of this operation can lead to using robots to locate and explore the damage in the No. 2 and 3 reactors, which utility operator Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO) suspect are having similar leaks. The robot, through its camera, was able to capture the image of the water that was leaking from two holes in the vessel. However, they could not determine how much water has already leaked through those holes. Locating the exact location of the leaks is crucial not just in solving the water contamination issues of the plant, but is also the first step towards decommissioning the reactors, which is expected to take between 30-40 years. The ongoing problems at the plant has caused the Japanese government to ask for help from international experts, including the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the U.S. Energy Department. They are helping TEPCO in checking the leaks as well as coming up with preventive measures to keep the contaminated water from seeping into the Pacific Ocean. Less

The freedom fighters will dig a tunnel and blew the main building of the the "army vehicule management" , it's one of the facilities that the assad army has to repair tanks that why the freedom fighters want to destroy it (they beseige it since long time but the proximity with other base make that assad forces try always to break the siege !) According the afp citing i think assad officials , that explosion will kill 3 major general including major general ahmed nader who run this base and 1 brigadier general and at least 31 soldiers (i think much more) Here is the source twitter.com/Charles_Lister/status/402162351303950336 Other source talk about 70+ soldiers killed , nevertheless , great operation of the freedom fighters ! 1Grizzman· I attempt to shoot a steel torso target at a distance of 2707 yards 1.54mi was the GPS reading. Corporal Craig Harrison is in the record books for the longest confirmed kill at 2707 yards. I was using 300gr Berger bullets traveling at 2740 FPS. This shot required about 35 mils of hold over, with the nightforce NXS I was able to dial 27.5 mils, back the magnification off to 13X and use the bottom of the 5 mil reticle. With a flight time of just over 5 seconds it comes in pounding with 740ft-lbs of energy at 1.54mi away. It took me 21 shots to get my first hit on the target, this was definitely one of the toughest shots to make. **** YOURSAY WARNING!!! IF YOU DON'T KNOW ME OR HAVE ANY INTEREST IN WATCHING SOME SWEDISH DOUCHES OUT IN SWEDISH NATURE - JUST SKIP THIS VIDEO **** I'm betting most yoursayers won't find this interesting either - but some might! For some reason it doesn't work to add more files anymore - at least not on this browser. So I embedded a couple. And this is just for some yoursayers that might find this a tad interesting. It's awhile back and kinda embarrasing but shows how we celebrated Midsummer 2002 in Stockholm Skärgård (Sandhamn) dammit, I already regret this upload. In this video I shoot a 1" thick block of steel with the Savage 110 BA chambered in 338 Lapua using a 300gr SMK bullet from a distance of 100 yards to show the ballistic force of the SMK 300gr 338 Lapua round. After shooting the steel block that weighs about 8lbs, it literally flew about 9ft back (2.75m). The rifle has a Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x56 mil/mil sitting on top of a Ken Ferrell 30 MOA scope base.
