Dubspot is proud to present Roots & Future - a special month-long video series celebrating the pioneers, innovators, and torch-bearers of Jamaican music. In this episode we catch up with respected roots reggae producers, Zion I Kings. In case you've missed the previous installment in the series, check out an interview with Gabrie Selassie (http://youtu.be/ga_qlruMhTs) and A Day with Lee "Scratch" Perry (http://youtu.be/Ju-Hedh8Tdw).nnSince the late 1960s, the small island nation of Jamaica has maintained one of the world's most vibrant music scenes, sparked various musical styles and revolutions (reggae, ska, dub, and dancehall to name a few), and introduced new recording and production techniques to the world. Without question, Jamaican music and culture continues to influence a wide variety of musical genres around the globe.nnIn this episode of our month-long focus on Jamaican music, Dubspot instructor and Dutty Artz co-founder Matt Shadetek catches up with Andrew "Moon" Bain, Laurent "Tippy" Alfred, and Jah David, members of the roots reggae production house Zion I Kings, at the legendary Tuff Gong Studios in Kingston. Zion I Kings' (Zion High Productions, I Grade Records, and Lustre Kings Productions) production credits include productions and collaborations with Snoop Lion, Jahdan Blakkamoore, Midnite, and many more. In this interview, the trio talk about their collaborative and individual creative processes for producing riddims, how they individually and collectively utilize different sound recording technologies (including Logic Pro, Ableton Live, and Akai APC). The interview concludes with some inspirational words, encouragement for up-and-coming producers and engineers - be patient, study their craft, be dedicated to their music, and listen to a wide range of sounds. nnHead over to our blog for more info: http://blog.dubspot.com/?p=56371nnCheck out our channel page for more tutorials, reviews, recaps, interviews, see what our partners are up to and more!
