A New Zealand surfer has earned the applause and praise of board riders and surfers in probably every ocean and beach, after tackling a Brazilian surfer from his board after the Brazilian consistently cut him off while surfing in Indonesia. As the footage shows, the Kiwi goofy-footer, identified only as 'Tim', is happily racing down the line on an inviting left-hander and eyeing a barrel when the Brazilian contemptuously drops in. After dropping around the barreling section as the Brazilian pulls in, the Kiwi waits for his chance to act, and tackles the interloper off his board. The footage has earned plenty of likes from surfers all too familiar with the growing lack of surf etiquette. In a post on the incident, Kiwi surfer Tim revealed how his patience wore thin after a spate of drop-ins before finally taking matters into his own hands - literally. What did 'Tim' have to say ? It's all happened to us before, you're out surfing, enjoying a good session with just you and your mates. Then you suddenly get that sinking feeling as you see 10 people pile out into the line up, all at once, heading for you like a honing missile. Oh well, it was bound to happen at some point, so you just smile, wait you're turn and try enjoy the remainder of you're session. This would work except the new comers have a different attitude, continuous snaking, consecutive drop-ins and generally bad attitudes would make you think you have entered into a WQS final. As luck would have it, one particular honing missile decided to head my way to fade me for the third consecutive time, let's just say my exit off the wave was either poorly timed or perfectly executed, depending on how you look at the situation. Fears are growing for three British schoolgirls who are believed to be making their way to Syria. Kadiza Sultana, 16, Shamima Begum, 15, and their unnamed 15-year-old friend left their east-London homes without telling their families. CCTV footage taken at London’s Gatwick Airport on Tuesday (February 17) shows the trio going through security, before they boarded a flight to Istanbul. Urgent appeal UK police have launched an urgent appeal to trace them and are said to be working closely with the Turkish authorities. A gateway to Syria, Istanbul is one of several areas currently experiencing severe weather conditions, which are affecting travel links. British authorities say this could mean there is a chance the girls are still in the country. Social media concerns Richard Walton, Head of the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terror Command expressed concern for the girls’ safety. “We don’t know what’s caused this. We don’t know whether it’s contact through social media or whether it’s contact through face-to-face locally. We don’t know at this stage,” he said. A powerful campaign by British Muslims to condemn the actions of the Islamic State jihadist movement has gained international momentum. ‘Not in my name’, led by the Active Change Foundation, is attempting to counter the presence of extremism on social media. Security forces estimate around 600 British Muslims have travelled to Syria to participate in the conflict. Some of those are believed to be members of the Islamic State militant group. Some 50 percent have since returned, with scores being arrested under anti-terrorism laws. ‘Surprised’ and ‘devastated’ Walton added: “The way that women and young girls are treated by the terrorist group calling itself ‘Islamic State’ is appalling. These girls are not safe in Syria. So, if they’re still in Istanbul and there’s a chance, a possibility, that we can bring them back, then we can safeguard these children.” The girls’ disappearance had ‘surprised’ and ‘devastated’ their families, the Police head said. They attend Bethnal Green Academy – the same school as another girl who travelled to Syria in December. The girls are believed to have known each other. It is thought more than 50 British women have made the journey to Syria via Turkey, with the aim of joining ISIL. Reports suggest many Westerners who join the group later become so-called ‘jihadi brides.’ Just a holiday? However, Abdul Samid, a parent governor at the academy, told the British media he believed the three were going on holiday: “I still don’t believe that they are going anywhere other than a holiday – because this is how they were dressed and this is how they looked and this is how they packed,” he added. He emphasised that there was “absolutely not” any radicalisation at the school, saying: “I’m 100 percent confident – with the head and the senior leadership team and the whole school – that we’ve done everything to put in measures that safeguard all the children that attend the school,” he said.   Less

Tanner was just 15, when his dad, Weld County Deputy Sam Brownlee, was killed in the line of duty after a police chase in 2010. Nearly five years later, Tanner and his brother, Chase, were hoping to get one of their dad's prized possessions from the Weld County Sheriff's Office. "It'd mean a lot to me and my brother. We've been through a lot," said Tanner. The Weld County Sheriff's Office auctioned off their dad's Dodge Charger on Wednesday night. The vehicle, with 147,000 miles, was being sold to raise money for C.O.P.S. -- Concerns of Police Survivors, an organization that provides services for survivors of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. "If we do get it tonight, I kind of hope my mom will let me drive it around tonight," Tanner said before the auction. "This is kind of the end of Sam's legacy here. It occurs to me that a most powerful force is the collective will of the people. People can and have throughout history brought about beneficial change. The collective will of people can bring about change through their actions as consumers, through their actions when they come together as one to speak on a cause. New Zealand has probably one of if not the best system of government in the world. I say this because in New Zealand we have a political system where anybody can become a politician. We have people speaking into parliament who are not popular with the mainstream, who have voices that would be suppressed and not heard at all in other countries. We have had politicians who have broken laws, who have been protesters and radicals, people from gay and transgender minorities, people of all religious beliefs. We have had our struggles as any nation does when we have different cultures coming together to carve out a means of co-existence. Look around the world and you will see that everywhere else where different cultures are forced into proximity with each other, where there is competition for control, for resources, for ideology. And you will see that they are openly slaughtering each other over their differences. New Zealand has an example of how to work through differences in a non violent way. And an example of how to put a government together where all opinions can have a voice in parliament, no matter whether there are other voices who might prefer not to hear that opinion. It has been said that what happens overseas, in time happens here. We lag behind world trends. If something is happening in the economy or society of the bigger world leading economies of Europe and USA, in time it will happen here also. New Zealand has been a follower of world trends. Now it is time for New Zealand to become a leader of world trends. Because the world trend is heading towards World War Three. If the trend continues, world war three will bring to an end life as we know it. Our economy will collapse, our young will be drafted and sent off to die in wars in foreign lands, as has been done throughout history. Looking around the world we see a trend of people divided and pitted against each other. Suspicion and hatred is everywhere and everywhere on all sides all we see is talk and action of people trying to anihalite each other. Cultures destroyed. Cities in ruins. Seeds of revenge sown for generations to come. New Zealanders think this will never happen here and we are isolated from it all, a peaceful country. That we have nothing an enemy could want from us. But actually this is not true. We have space, we have fertile fields capable of producing crops to feed nations much bigger and when starvation sets in among other nations populations, they will look closely at all the green grass we grow here as readily as they look at the oil fields of today. We are allied to other nations at the front lines of the various global conflicts going on today. Australia has vast reserves of uranium. In tomorrows world, Uranium will be as strategic as oil is today. Why do nations feel compelled to kill or be killed fighting over oil? Because it is the lifeblood of economies and without functioning economies, people go hungry. Hungry people eventually run riot and governments know this so they will do whatever they can to secure oil. When the oil runs out, they will feel the same way about Uranium. Many countries will look at Australia and their uranium then, in the same way they look today at countries with oil today. Any other nation looking to feed its population of 100's of millions of people, in a future world where oil has run out and when nuclear fuel is the lifeblood of an economy, the ability to provide water through pipes, energy for food production, medicines for hospitals, all the things needed to keep a population from descending into civil unrest, disorder, disobedience and food riots, might take it into their minds to make a grab for Australia's uranium. At the moment, the easiest way to invade Australia would be to first invade and take control of New Zealand territory, and then use this country as base for air strikes on our closest ally. In short, World War 3 approaches and in our globally connected society, we will watch the start of it as we do now on our facebook feeds and our high definition TV's in the comfort of our living rooms. Then we will switch it off and perhaps have a BBQ and convince ourselves it could never happen here, not to us. As things stand now, we are in a world where we have open communication between all people everywhere. Ordinary people can talk to ordinary people no matter what country they are in. Facebook and google will even translate the different languages so not even language is a barrier anymore. It is time for New Zealander's to step up and take a leading role in world affairs. We have a political model that other countries can look to as an alternative to systems where dominant cultures snuff out the voices they would rather not hear. Which does not work and only leads to radicalisation and the terrorism we see happening all around us in the world today. The collective will of people working and speaking together is now the only force that might turn around the track our world is on. We are known to be among the worlds best innovators. If new ways are needed of doing things, let us not think it is impossible to create them. We are a small country where change is easy for us and where we can trial the new approaches needed for tomorrows world. New Zealand should be the peacemaker to the world.   Less

What if it came to life right before your eyes? That’s the experience Berlin’s Museum für Naturkunde is proposing in connection with Google thanks to a Virtual Reality headset connected to your smartphone. “The Giraffatitan that we have here in Berlin stands as a skeleton. What happens in this animation is that the skeleton all of a sudden morphs into a living, three-dimensional animal. And you see, through your 3D glasses, how the dinosaur walks around and moves towards you with its tail waging. You get a whole new perspective on how it looked when it was alive,” explains Wieland Holfelder from the Google Engineering Centre in Munich. The experience is the result of a joint venture with the Google Cultural Institute as part of its project to digitise exhibitions around the world. And it definitely makes the visit more exciting according to the museum’s director, Johannes Vogel: “Having a chance to play around with virtual reality offers a more intense experience. For some visitors, it brings them closer to the wonder of nature.” The exhibition and virtual reality video can be accessed on the Google Arts and Culture website. Fifty museums from London to New York are taking part in the project offering online visitors an immersive 360-degree experience in which the exhibits come to life. A group of people were about to walk in front of where someone fired shots. The shooting was caught by three red light cameras. What you can’t see on camera is a black SUV, where police believe a shooter fired into another car. You can see the windshield shatter on the victim’s car, both front and back. The next car up, drove through the red light to get away. It was nearly t-boned. The shooting victim also drove against the red light and made a sharp left. From another angle you can see the victim’s car run head on into two cars about to go west toward The Loop. Powder from air bags can be seen shooting from the cars. Then, you can see someone crawling out of the wreckage of the victim’s car. He appears to slide over the trunk of the car and look around. Then he jogs off camera, heading east on Delmar. Police say that man later stole a car to get away before police arrived. Yesterday, I had an argument with my younger brother (19) on how he played some type of sports betting in Football (Soccer), and he was really pissed off because one team screw up his ticket and he was telling me how he "lost" around $342 (that he could have won). Where in fact, he only payed around $2 for the ticket. So, he kept insisting that he lost $342, while I kept telling him that he only lost $2. Well, there was no way to convince him and I don't know who is right and who is wrong... I mean how can you lose something you never had? Two Florida women hope that by selling a pin-up calendar featuring naked female farmers and strategically placed produce, they can raise enough money for a down payment on some new land. That's the pitch behind an Indiegogo campaign from Ten-Speed Greens Urban Farm. The company's owners, Claire Mitchell and Danielle Krasniqi, are currently farm-less; the landlord of their previous farm wanted to build homes there instead. So the ladies and their friends decided to strip down -- tastefully -- and rally folks to donate to their cause. There was a time when Ten Speed Greens Urban Farm, in Tallahassee, totally cranked. With only a six-person staff, it produced about 90 pounds of salad greens -- arugula, red mustard, kale, broccoli shoots and more -- every week for restaurants, local markets and their community-supported agriculture program. The farm produced more than a ton of tomatoes in its first year.But they were just renting their land. Now, Krasniqi and Mitchell have decided they wanted a more permanent arrangement. "We wanted it to be an urban farm," Krasniqi told The Huffington Post, "but land is more expensive in the city." Being close enough to the city to deliver their produce by bike is important to them (hence their name, Ten-Speed Greens), so they started brainstorming ways to fund the dream. According to their Indiegogo page, they "looked around one day and realized, 'All our friends are babes! Let's put them in a calendar with our vegetables, and raise money for our future urban farm.'"Their "Farmer Tans Calendar" will feature 12 months of women wearing nothing but fruits, vegetables and their farmer tans. The photos were snapped by a volunteer at the farm who is also a professional photographer, Jess Drawhorn. "For most of the photos, not only were we completely naked but we were at the farm on a busy street without a lot of personal coverage," Krasniqi (Miss January and November) said. "It resulted in a lot of funny moments because people like to stop by randomly to see if we’re open. We’d be in the tomatoes and someone would say, 'Hello?' So there was a lot of laughter in every single shoot that we did."Krasniqi said she's already thinking about next year's calendar. "I'm also a massage therapist, so I love bodies and the human figure. I think celebrating that and being able to celebrate it with the other job that I love so much, farming, is awesome." Next year, she says, she wants to do a "work-oriented calendar, so tools, tractors, that kind of aspect."
