The weather in Vancouver has been shit and the sunny days have been landing on work days. So I've had to resort to playing sims:| I've had a lot of these tricks keeping me up at night. So I'm very glad I was able to finally get them on film. These last two days of flying have been the most fun I've had in a long time. I was really able to bring life back to my soul and spirit. I would also like to add that I was very inspired by Tom Smith FPV and Skitzo this past month. Those two guys are absolutely killing it right now. Thanks everyone nnNow to the LRC X frame:) nnI've been testing this frame for about a month now. This is a true X frame. All 4 motors are equal distance apart 186mm, ultra light, simple design, and if carrying a Gopro is important to you. The top plate sits on the prop line. This gives you pretty much perfect balance on all 3 axis, with your weight centred on the Z axis. My hats off to Josh Haywood at Liftrc. I told him exactly what I wanted out of this platform and he believed. Was even able to make it look cool:) In the way of flight characteristics I'm just blown away. All my maneuvers when I'm freestyling feel so intuitive. Can also feel how its gonna make racing and flying aggressive that much better. With its weight and balance I feel like I can throw it into any corner at any speed and know exactly what its gonna do. Growing up we used to make fun of the fat kids. You know the ones trying to learn to play the piano with their fingers as fat as sausages. They would hit two or three piano keys with one finger and I would stare in amusement in the morning. Then in the afternoon we would see the same fat fingered kid trying to learn to type on a keyboard. Those were some good times. I remember the dislike I had for larger women because they weren't taking care of themselves and I was. I felt like they didn't care about themselves. In the past if you were a relatively good looking muscular man you could get into a relationship with a fatty that was two or three level below you on the sexual marketplace value scale and you knew that she had self esteem issues and that she wasn't going anywhere because you were the best that she could do. So she would most likely stick around. That was in the days of fat shaming. But now even the grossly obese women are full of poop both literally and figuratively. The overweight woman used to have lower self esteem so they were nicer to be around and needed to have a quote unquote nice because if they acted up and treat their men poorly he would leave them for the next tub of lard around the corner. I miss the good old days when fat women with self-esteem. Now they are just as mean as the thin ones thinking they're all that and an extra large bag of chips. There are obese fashion bloggers, singers like Adele and Meghan Trainor waddling their way on stage. Boosting the self confidence and making fat women just as bitchy as their non fat counterparts. Fat acceptance culture is here and cankles rhyme with sexy. The only women that don't have full self-esteem yet are trans women. And we are working on giving them their own bathrooms and safe spaces as I speak. Fat acceptance culture is a way to elevate the sexual marketplace value of fat women so that they can gain access to the top twenty percent of men in the totem pole. The 21 paintings of the missions of California by Edwin Deakin are part of the collection at the Santa Barbara Mission Archives Library (http://www.sbmal.org) under the direction of Dr. Monica Orozco. Though the California missions were painted by many artists in the 1800's only a couple of artists did complete sets of all the missions. Among the most famous was Henry Chapman Ford who painted a series of all the missions 20 years earlier. But of all the artists in the 1800's, Deakin's moody old Spanish mission paintings are the most beautiful, the most artistic and the highest quality. The artist, of course, love these paintings when they were finished... so much, in fact, that he set a high price on them individually, and as a collection, so that they would never sell and they would stay together as a collection. The paintings have been well cared for over the past 120 years and have reached our day in a fairly good condition. They were donated in the 1950’s by the very generous Elaine and Howard Willoughby. Let me share with you some of the preservation and art restoration details that were done to help this paintings look their best. Tests were performed to make sure that the treatments were safe for the artwork. The cleaning spot in the video showed how discolored the varnish layers were, as we removed the varnish layers from the paintings you can see in the video the difference that it made in returning the paintings to their original colors. Gathers on the corners of the paintings were relaxed and pulled out. The original frames had oxidized, had changed colors and were splitting at the corners. Deakin painted his crest and signature at the back of many of the paintings and often made notations as you can see in the video. In the video is a quick viewing of all the 21 paintings in this collection after the oil painting restoration treatments. When Deakin painted these paintings, these historic structures were being re-appreciated, re-valued and the “Mission Style” was very popular. Not only did Deakin love the culture around the missions but he wanted to see them restored and revitalized, but this was not the case with everyone. Given their romantic and artistic presence there were some artists like William Keith, known as “The Artist of California” and Gutzon Borglum who both declared they “would like to see the missions left in their neglected condition as a reminder of the pastoral time, never to return, and because of the romantic and mystical feeling they evoked.” Deakin's exhibition in 1900’s of these 21 paintings was perfectly in line with the “Spanish Revival” movement and the popularity of the Mission Style. Both of these socially accepted artistic design styles were a-variation-on-a-theme of the Arts and Crafts Movement, so popular nationally. The response to Deakin's paintings was enthusiastic; Sunset Magazine called them “the greatest work of a California artist.” I should mention also that there is a great book put out by the Santa Barbara Mission Archive Library on these 21 oil paintings that FACL worked on, plus the corresponding watercolors that belong to the Santa Barbara Historical Society (now the SB Historical Museum). Not a lot of storms overall and it seemed generally more quiet. And in many ways it actually was a slower season. All told I chased about 36 days for this film, which was less than the 48 in 2015. We had an early start in late June, and then it was dead for almost three weeks. When I looked back and realized I chased 12 less days...yeah, it definitely had less action than normal.nnBut to a storm chaser, none of this really means anything. Sure there were days when nothing was remotely possible to chase, but most of the time the monsoon can be found in the far corners of the state even when Phoenix and Tucson are dry as a bone.nnFor me personally, I loved this season. Maybe because as a filmmaker, having put out a few of these films now, I'm beginning to focus and hone in more on what I really love to time-lapse. My early scenes years ago had a lot of average clouds and distant rain that didn't have a lot of excitement or energy. But as the years go on, and I learn more and more about chasing storms here in Arizona...I've found myself in better spots to capture the stuff I really enjoy. Strong downbursts of rain, building clouds, lightning...and yes, dust storms.nnThe one thing I was hoping for in 2016 that the previous years have lacked: Haboobs. Dust storms. Rolling walls of dirt and sand engulfing the deserts and even Phoenix itself. And my wish came true in that regard. Even a very late season, September 27th haboob that I captured right at sunset with glorious colors.nnComing off the heels of filming Vorticity in the spring, with monster supercells and tornadoes, the monsoon is a totally different beast and you'd think it would be less exciting. I don't know. I find them both amazing and inspiring. Weather to me is weather. No matter how mind-blowing it was to witness the Wynnewood tornado this past spring, standing in front of a rolling wall of dust, or a distant lightning storm under the stars...it's all a blast to me and I never get tired of it. nnSo Monsoon III...the credits will say it, but it was around 36 days of filming, I shot over 85,000 frames and am not sure how much made it into the final cut. The song I used was "Revenge" and "Revenge: Epilogue" by Kerry Muzzey, and I took both of them and sliced and diced until I actually had a six-minute version to fit in with all the footage I captured. I love it. nnAs always...THANK YOU to Kerry Muzzey for supporting my work by letting me use his music once again. I don't even have enough words for this man for doing this for me. It means more than anything! Please buy his work!nnI started editing this film mid-summer once I figured out the song I was using. And as days went by and more clips were rendered, I kept adding them and re-arranging them all the time, trying to get every clip to match the tone and feeling of the music. And then I'd think I was done and more storms would come and I'd have to move things around again, and even drop stuff. I have a lot of fun scenes that are not in this film because I only wanted the very best.nnSpecial thanks to Bryan Snider and Dustin Farrell for some tips this summer on editing out dust spots and birds better than I had been doing. Appreciate it fellas!nnMy wife takes the brunt of what I do, especially when I'm gone for days at a time. Filming in Arizona is easier because I'm usually home at some point in the evening and at least around in the mornings. But it's a lot of work and a lot of time being away. She supports me like no other and I can't believe how lucky I am to have someone with that much faith in what I do.nnAnd a lot of these clips will forever hold memories for me because my two oldest kiddos were there for them, and at times even all three were nearby. My littlest guy who just turned three, sits on my lap a lot when I edit, listens to the music and loves watching the final product. And he wants to keep watching it...over, and over and over. nnMakes a daddy proud.nnI hope you enjoy this latest installment. Kylie Jenner, 18, showed her Snapchat followers exactly how she created the make-up look seen here, calling it 'low-key hard' nnFirst, Kylie mixed two different foundations (one from Make Up For Ever and another from Urban Decay) to help even out her complexion and blended them using the cult-favorite Beautyblender sponge. nPro tip: Make sure to follow Kylie's example and blend your foundation all the way down past your neck so you're face doesn't look like a different shade from the rest of your body.nNext, Kylie moved on to her brows. Although she said she usually uses a medium brown to fill in her eyebrows, she chose a caramel color from Anastasia Beverly Hills this time for a softer effect.nAfter perfecting her arches, Kylie used a flat brush to swipe a Becca concealer right above and below her brows. She claimed she forgot her concealer brush but made do using a flat brow brush so natural-looking that we're tempted to try it ourselves.nnConcealer is key: Kylie applied a just-opened Nars concealer under her eyes and down her T-zone before blending with a Beautyblender and setting with powdernShe applied Laura Mercier's Translucent Loose Setting Powder, which she labeled 'Life', over the concealer with a fluffy eyeshadow brush to ensure it stayed put.nThen, she used the same brush in a windshield-wiper motion to apply a brown eyeshadow all over her lids and followed it up by blending a darker brown shade along and just above the upper lashline, extending out just past the corner of the eye.n'Nothing better than a new concealer,' Kylie wrote while showing off her presumably just-opened Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer. My dad and I use to put a pillow on the bar of his bike and let me ride around the neighborhood with him. One day we were coming around a corner and the guy that lived on the corner started pulling out of his driveway really fast, he didn’t look behind him or around to see if anyone was there he just backed out of his driveway. My dad almost hit him and had to hit the bite breaks really hard, the momentum of him hitting his brakes swung my legs forward and my left leg when in between the spokes wires of his bicycle. The next thing I remember as being in the front seat of his car and my dad wrapping a towel around my leg and the blood soaking through the towel. They say that people sometimes black out trauma and I’m guessing that’s what happened because I only remember certain things. I do remember lying on the hospital bed and trying to sit up. I saw my leg and I had a hole in my ankle with what looked like meat coming out. I’m guessing that was my muscle but I don’t know, it was just so disgusting. nnWhen I went back to school all the kids in kindergarten wanted to look at my cast and we’re asking tons of questions, I remember thinking that I was so cool because everyone wanted to talk to me lol. The only other thing I remember is a few weeks later they took one of my crutches always and it was so painful putting might weight on my cast. I have two scars on both sides of my left ankle, and the one side is still extremely sensitive to the touch. I must have messed up than nerves in my ankle or something. And how far an act of kindness will go.nnThree young girls in Blue Earth formed a special friendship with an unlikely duo. The Evenson sisters stop what they’re doing during garbage pick-up. The short encounter each week has changed everyone’s lives.nnAnd, as Jennifer Mayerle found out, it all started with a wave and a smile.nnEvery week the Evenson girls Grace, Rose and Sophia wait to hear the garbage truck round the corner. They scramble to climb into position on the perch at the window.nn“There he is, I found him with my binoculars,” 3-year-old Rose said.nnThey’ve been doing this wave and smile each week from afar for about a year. Brandon Olsen and Taylor Fritz, the garbage men with Hometown Sanitation, wave back just as vigorously.nn“We wait and we look for them. For us it makes our day,” Olsen said.nn“It could warm anybody’s heart, seeing those girls wave,” Fritz said.nnAround Halloween the guys dropped off treats for the girls. In return the girls drew them pictures, which the trash guys now treasure.nn“And I wrote a little note, not intending for it to be anything,” mom Angie Evenson said.nn“I always keep it on me. When I’m having a bad day I just look at this and read it,” Fritz said.nnIt said, “We may miss you some Thursdays upcoming, our 3-year-old girl was diagnosed with cancer and has chemo on Thursdays.”nnAngie didn’t want Olsen and Fritz to feel badly that the girls wouldn’t be around to wave most weeks.nnDoctors diagnosed 3-year-old Rose with stage 4 kidney cancer in September. It had spread to her lungs, and treatment required radiation and chemotherapy and lots of time away from home.nn“I have three kids of my own. I could never imagine it. Like it tore me apart,” Olsen said.nn“She knows that she’s loved and everyone has her back and she doesn’t have to be alone and the family doesn’t have to be alone either,” Fritz said.nnThe next week Olsen and Fritz left the Evenson family a note from their company.nn“Our teammates Brandon and Taylor filled us in on the situation and shared the very kind note that you left for them. We were so proud that their gestures gave you a reason to smile recently. Please accept our gift of free garbage service for you through the end of 2017,” Angie Evenson read.nnOlsen and Fritz traded in the complimentary service they get as employees to help the Evensons.nn“I started crying, it was only a few weeks out from the diagnosis. Sometimes it’s hard to be positive but little things like what Hometown did are helping us limp along,” Angie Evenson said.nn“It really brightened our day just to find that and just that they cared,” dad Aaron Evenson said.nn“It’s hard to put words to it other than — and thank you seems so insufficient,” Angie Evenson said.nnOn this collection day, the guys made another delivery: Christmas gifts for the girls and their baby brother Lincoln. Making the most of a visit where all the girls were home.nn“We miss them when they’re gone but we make up for it when they’re back,” Fritz said.nnRose will miss a few more weekly waves. But her chemotherapy will change to Mondays in the new year so she’ll be around to wave with her sisters on garbage day.
