A driver who fled the scene while receiving a ticket from an Irving police officer became the hero in a bizarre sequence of events Tuesday. While writing a ticket for one driver, a second driver — who police believe was texting and driving — hit the officer’s motorcycle at an intersection of a Dallas suburb. The motorcycle nearly hit the officer after impact, but the driver of the truck never stopped. Police say he fled the scene, and then things got even stranger when the driver who was receiving the ticket took off and chased the hit-and-run driver. He was actually able to track down that suspect a short distance away from the crash, say police. According to WFAA, the officer involved was heard over police radio traffic saying, “I got one running, I’ve been hit on the highway. The guy I was writing a ticket to just fled.” Dashcam video released by Irving Police shows “multiple officers apprehending the suspect in front of a La Quinta Inn & Suites.” In multiple 911 calls obtained by News 8, passersby told police that a man with a knife had another man pinned to the ground outside the hotel. Turns out, police say, the man holding down the suspect was the original driver who was pulled over. It‘s still unclear exactly how the first driver got the suspect to the ground after the brief chase. That driver would not receive a ticket, police told News 8. He was given a warning instead. Less

CCTV cameras at a Houston gas station have captured the moment a female motorist deliberately ran down two men before driving off. Remarkably the men walked away with just cuts and bruises after being thrown into the air as the motorist sped away. The incident followed a heated exchange between the two men and a woman, who was behind the wheel of the light-coloured Buick. Marcus Chukwe said he and his boss were putting petrol in their vehicle at the end of the work day when the woman nearly backed into them at the pump. "My boss was like, 'Whoa, don't kill us'," Mr Chukwe said. The woman, who reportedly had a male passenger in the car, rolled down her window and yelled at the pair. Mr Chukwe said they ignored her and he went inside to pay for the gas. But security footage showed the Buick idling at a nearby pump as Mr Chukwe made his way back to his car. The driver is then seen chasing the pair down, striking both men and sending them tumbling into the air before speeding off. Both men escaped the June 24 hit-and-run without serious injury. Tempe, AZ - The Tempe Police Department is asking for the public's help to identify and locate the driver of a car that hit a boy and fled the scene last week. The hit-and-run happened at approximately 1:35 p.m. Wednesday. Lt. Mike Pooley said the 8-year-old boy had just exited a city bus and was crossing a residential street in the 2000 block of East Hayden Lane when a dark gray Chevrolet hit him. Video shows the boy riding a skateboard across the road when he is struck. Another boy riding a scooter crossed just a few seconds ahead of him. The child was knocked to the ground and sustained minor injuries. The driver did not stop and the car was last seen heading westbound on Hayden Lane. The driver is described as a white or Hispanic woman in her 20s. It's believed that a female passenger was also in the vehicle. SEATTLE -- An 18-year old driver accused of hitting a cyclist and fleeing the scene has turned himself in to police, officers said Monday. The cyclist was headed northbound on Dexter Avenue at Thomas Street in South Lake Union Friday when the driver turned in front of him. He was wearing a GoPro camera on his helmet, which captures the sound of his bike braking, followed by the crash, and then video of the driver speeding away. The cyclist was knocked from his bike and sustained minor injuries. Video shows him get up and give chase after the car, but he is unable to catch the vehcile. The video also appears to show the driver holding his cell phone. Less

Police have released CCTV in a bid to identify the driver in a hit and run in Brighton. Officers are looking to speak to people who were in the area at the time and may be able to help with the investigation. At 3.40pm on Thursday, January 14 a 53-year-old pedestrian was hit by a Fiat 500 on Montague Place in the Kemptown area. The Fiat was being driven along Bristol Road before turning left into Montague Place where it collided with the man crossing the road. It didn't stop at the scene and can be seen to carry on along Montague Place and turn right into College Street. The victim suffered serious injuries. Sergeant Dan Pitcher said: "We are very keen to trace the drivers of the taxi, the silver van, the dark Ford Focus and the black parked car. We think you could give us vital information we need to identify the driver. Were you the taxi driver and do you have a dash camera which may have captured the Fiat as it drove past? Were you in the silver van and did you notice who was driving as the Fiat approached the junction? The Ford turned before the Fiat and you may have seen something in your rear view mirror. We believe the woman in the parked car was in it during the time of the collision, did you see what happened? "We are keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened or can give us information which will help with our investigation? The Fiat drove off leaving the victim for dead and clearly they would have known they had hit someone. The pedestrian, a man from Hove, suffered serious head injuries and is thankfully making a recovery."
