The World Health Organization says 16,169 people had been infected or were suspected of being infected in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea as of Tuesday, in the worst outbreak of Ebola. 6,928 of them died. The number of deaths is more than 1,200 higher than the previous number released Wednesday. Most of increase was in Liberia, where the number was over 1,100 higher than before. A WHO spokesperson told the AFP news agency the numbers are significantly greater because deaths that were not reflected in the previous statistics are included this time. The WHO has not disclosed recent statistics for countries other than the 3 in West Africa, but it is bracing for the epidemic to expand.
