Washko is interested in the impulse of the player-base to create an oppressive, misogynistic space for women within a physical environment that is otherwise accessible and inviting. Furthermore, WoW is a geographically, politically, economically, socially, and racially diverse community (a much more varied community to engage with than she has in physical public space). The popular films made in this ‘Yeşilçam period’ elevated copying and mixing well-known genre conventions almost to an art form. In addition, partly because of the lack of laws on copyright, many remakes of Hollywood classics emerged. From Rocky to The Exorcist and from The Wizard of Oz to Star Wars: all acquired an often bizarre Turkish version that was literally and metaphorically translated to meet local needs.nIn an industry where Turkish actors could easily play in several hundred films, every trick of the trade was fully exploited: genre clichés, borrowed soundtracks, even plagiarism. Messy rush jobs or self-conscious B-movies? Simone Schramm // Master Thesis // Interface Design // 2015-16 // Fachhochschule Potsdam nnMy master thesis is based upon the hypothesis that human body perception and intuition are likely to be influenced by the present form of self-tracking. This trend is highly characterized by quantification, the communication of body data via numbers, lists and diagrams and a gapless documentation. Numbers are objective. Humans are subjective. Latter are therefore highly diverse and cannot be brought down to one common denominator. Undisputed trust into technology has the potential to replace innate intuition. As an interface designer I try to find a ways to challenge this development. I'm excited to introduce two innovative and unique self-tracking devices. nnThe level of muscle tension is communicated by the narrowness of the fabric. Through contractions on the back of the garment the textile is gathered. The physical transformation ranges between the properties “wide” and “comfortably tight”. It is perceived by the skin surface and has the potential to enhance an adequate posture of the wearer. This transformation can also be associated with of speed and agility, which is related to physical activity during exercise. Transitions of the transformation are fluent and do not include any fixed steps, nor implies categories of muscle tension. This reproduction of muscle behavior corresponds with the human body perception and delivers adequate space for innate intuition. In addition to the haptic experience the registered measurements are also communicated in a visual way. The upper layer of the fabric has a finely sliced structure that gets pulled apart through the contraction and reveals an underlying colored layer.
