Washington DC is a fabulous place to visit. The history, the food and the openness to travel around and explore. One of the greatest parts of this "impromptu" family trip was that it occurred over the July 4th holiday in 2014. Was I a little nervous about everything being way too crowded? Yes. Was it crowded? Yes. Did our family of five have a three day trip that was totally unforgettable? Without a doubt.nnIn my opinion, having a family with three relatively young children the hardest part of traveling is just planning it and getting your mind right that everybody will soon be confined to close living quarters. Heck, even the airplane or car ride and start that creep of anxiety to start flowing over everyone.nnMy advice, enjoy the moment. The memories are really all you will have from the trip when you look back on it 6 months later like I am doing now. But here is my most sage piece of advice I can give. Document it. I don't mean 24/7. With todays cameras and technology (especially editing software), this isn't your father's old VCR cam corder where you would place it on a tripod in the corner of the room and just let it roll. No one watches that, and if they do, it's pretty painful.nnMake a small movie, a mini-film if you will. Take pictures, take 7 second video clips. Just get the reaction, capture the smiles and the beauty of the bright sky. Just capture footage. Worry about the editing later.nnMy biggest piece of advice. After you come back home from your trip set a goal to do something with all of your files before too much time passes. It becomes harder and you become less motivated to do something with it. In the end, many of us will allow our wonderful memories to languish forever on a lonely hard drive or cloud service forever.nnI just edited this video you see here. I was guilty of that very thing. I put it off, got busy and when I thought about editing the clips, I talked myself out of it. Until now. It is a new year. Make a resolution to bring those memories to life. You'll be happy because you will have probably freed up a lot of future recording space on your iPhone or memory cards.nnIf you have any questions or would like to inquire about teaching sessions. You can reach out to me at JaWaViFilms@gmail.comnnTake care! Less

The McMillan Sand Filtration Site is one of Washington, DC's most conspicuous mysteries: a fenced-off 25-acre grassy plain just over 2 miles north of Capitol Hill, marked by rows of tall concrete cylinders clothed in overgrown ferns. Unbeknownst to the thousands of commuters and residents that pass by its rusted gates daily, below this sprawling parcel of land lies a series of vast underground caverns built in the early 20th century by the Army Corps of Engineers as a natural purification facility for DC's turbid water supply.nnSealed to the public at the onset of World War II, the park above the filtration cells has been inaccessible ever since. Now, almost 30 years since its official closure, the site - a curious holdout among DC's recent wave of rapid urban development - has become the subject of a widespread debate over its future use.n-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~nSpecial thanks to Kirby Vining and Braulio Agnese.nnMusic: "Unknown 1" - ILLL - FreeMusicArchive.org nnSeries Production by: Raymond Schillinger (@rayschillinger)n-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~nUNUSUAL SPACES is part of the PBS Digital Studios network. "Mad Max: Fury Road" - We Don't Need Another Hero Music Video (HD) Tina TurnernnWhat can I say that hasn't already been said in the last few days? "Mad Max: Fury Road" is now on the road to become an action movie classic not only for the heart-pounding stunts but for the insane amount of heart that the cast, crew and director George Miller have given to it. Having been raised by my Dad on the original Mad Max trilogy with Gibson, this is definitely a special time for me and every other fan.nnWith that being said, it seemed to me that the only true way to make the new film anymore epic than it already is would be to combine it with the "We Don't Need Another Hero" music video from legendary singer Tina Turner. As many know, this was the title song of "Mad Max: Beyond the Thunderdome" and has been 30 years now. I hope you all enjoy what I've done here.nnEdited by Nick Bosworth, © 2015nnPurchase the song on iTunes: http://apple.co/1HiErjinnAll video/audio/logos used is the copyright ownership of their respective owners. Ruby Taki and Cici James both competed in the cosplay contest at the recent New York Comic Con. One is a Japanese salesperson working in Manhattan; the other owns a sci-fi and fantasy bookstore in DUMBO. Although they come from different cultural backgrounds, the two shared a somewhat unpopular goal at Comic Con -- not being the hottest chick in the Javits Center.n"I wanted to compete other contestants with my skills -- not just being sexy, showing skins," says Taki, who was competing with her hand-crafted Metal Gear REX robot costume."That's why I hide myself inside of the costume, because I don't want people to judge me by my gender."nn"I don't want to be the hot chick at Comic Con. I'm mostly excited by how the costumes facilitate conversation with other people in costumes," says James, who dressed up in a bright yellow flight suit as Yuki Mori, a character from an anime series called Space Battleship Yamato.nnWe followed these two cosplay enthusiasts to Comic Con and asked them what motivated them, why they chose their costumes, and what Comic Con means to them.nnHere are two bonus videos that go in-depth with James and Taki:nhttps://vimeo.com/108426580nhttps://vimeo.com/108185872 Less

During the early hours of November 19th, 2013, 5Pointz, a New York City landmark whose walls prominently displayed countless pieces of sanctioned street art, was hastily painted over on the orders of the building’s long-time owner as the first step in a process to develop the space into luxury condominiums. Now on the anniversary of the November 19th “whitewash,” a short subject documentary entitled We Don’t Need More Rats Here is available on-line for public viewing. nn"Rats" documents the 5Pointz artists’ efforts to save the building before it was painted over and gives viewers a last look through the eyes of independent filmmaker, P.J. Monsanto, at what 5Pointz represented and how it fit into the City’s street art history and culture.nnFor more information, please contact wedontneedmoreratshere@gmail.com Less

Be a part of making music: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/kawehi/interaktivnnFOR PHIL. Thank you for supporting my project and for picking such a cool song for me to cover for you!nI was too young when this song first came out to truly understand it. I didn't have any dreams then, I hadn't owned anything or had anything own me, I didn't know what freedom was and certainly didn't know why we would fight for it. But as it is with any truly genius songwriter/band, Neil Finn's music has lived through decades of musical change and has touched many generations, and when I heard it again as an adult I remember that feeling of understanding.nnI truly enjoyed making this video.
