As the set had already been struck, production designer Lisa Soper kindly drove various elements down from Canada for us to shoot in NY.nnI also had the pleasure to collaborate with my seven year old son Zephyr on this job. El lugar, situado frente a una bella cala, disfruta de amplias vistas al mar, lo que motiva el uso de grandes muros de hormigón visto que se disparan en distintas direcciones. El panorama queda enmarcado entre la arquitectura y el agua de la piscina, que se recorta contra el horizonte. nnUna de sus particularidades más estimulantes son los largos voladizos de porche, que por su sistema constructivo, se encajan entre los muros en lugar de apoyarse en ellos, consiguiendo un efecto visual que se acerca a lo imposible. La vivienda posee una gran expresividad material, gracias al uso de acabados con fuertes texturas, como el hormigón y la madera blanqueada. La abstracción formal se combina con una materialidad telúrica, en un sutil juego de contrastes.nnnEnglish ► House El Bosque by Ramón Esteve EstudionnThis unique home is located on top of a hill that down to the Mediterranean Sea on the Costa Blanca. The place, located in front of a beautiful cove, has sweeping sea views, which motivates the use of large concrete walls that shoot in different directions. The picture is framed between the architecture and the pool water, which is silhouetted against the horizon. nnOne of its most exciting peculiarities are the long porch overhangs, which by their construction system, are embedded within the walls instead of resting on them, achieving a visual effect that approaches the impossible. The house has an expressive materiality through the use of rough finishes such as concrete and bleached wood. The combined materials are employed in shades of white, looking for warmth. The formal abstraction is combined with earthy materiality in a subtle play of contrasts.   Less

"One wanted a picturesque, cosy and archetypal summer house, while another wanted a spacious and contemporary feeling."nnExternally clad with blackened timber boards, the cabins overlap one another to create a central living area that opens out to a series of wooden outdoor decks.nn"Summerhouses are traditionally family spaces but when children grow older they need more independence from their parents; hence the 'village of cabins' organisation, with radiating individual spaces that are united in the centre," the architects added.nnThe living room, kitchen and dining area occupy three of the cabins, while one contains a master bedroom and another houses two smaller bedrooms.   Less

See more architecture and design movies on dezeen.com/moviesnnThe six-storey building was designed by Vous Êtes Ici Architectes to provide 11 social housing units beside a school in the 5th Arrondissement of the French capital, on a site previously occupied by a low-rise warehouse.nnRather than building across the entire site, the architects developed an irregularly shaped block that follows the rhythms of the surrounding architecture and frames a pair of gardens at the north and south-east edges.nnThese also line up with the main road and pedestrian pathway that line two edges of the site, helping to the reduce the visual impact of the structure.nn"The building is set back from the street, allowing the sunlight to reach the school courtyard set across the street," explained studio founders Alexandre Becker, Paul Pflughaupt and Julien Paulré. "This setup allows respiration and gives space back to the pedestrian passage."nnWhile some of the building's walls are clad with timber planks, others are covered with pre-weathered zinc. At ground level, there are also walls of dark brickwork, which demarcate entrances.nnWindows with orange frames add colour to the elevations. This also features within the building's stairwells and corridors, where walls, floors and railings are uniformly painted in the same hue.nnNo more than three apartments are located on each floor and the angular shapes of the building give each home a non-standard shape.nn"The created volumes allow different typologies for the apartments as well as creating views for all," said the architects.nnSouth-facing loggias allow apartments to benefit from sunlight during the peak of the day.nnGraphic logos adorn doors to direct residents to bicycle storage and bin stores, while a grassy terrace is located on the roof.   Less
