The D&AD New Blood Awards celebrates the very best young creative talent, and winning an award is one of the most sought after prizes in the industry. In order to demonstrate the various skills it takes it be winner, we created a series of stings for each nomination category. A lot of noise has been made about the lack of diversity among nominees for the Oscars this year. This video shows how many black, hispanic, and asian winners there have been throughout history, across four main categories -- best actor/actress, supporting actor/actress, writing (original and adapted screenplays), and directing.nnDetermining race/ethnicity and assigning people to categories can be a rather dicey and imprecise activity. Some inaccuracies or points of contention must be expected.nnI took a chance when designing this: The video already includes the 2015 ceremony results. If Inarritu does not win Best Director, nor for best original screenplay, my video will not need to be updated. If he does, I will make the necessary change at my earliest convenience.nnSource: WikipediannVisit my site: http://www.edlundart.comnFollow me on Twitter: https://twitter.com/edlundartnnMusic: "String Impromptu Number 1" by Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) n(Altered by EDLUNDART)nLicensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0ncreativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/ Less

As the second supercut in my "Best Sound Editing Oscar Nominees 2016" series, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is no stranger to the use of sound. This film allows the viewer to experience sounds that have been used before whether it's Luke's lightsaber, Han's blaster, or Chewbacca's growl. There are also new sounds that add to this auditory sci-fi world such as BB-8, Kylo Ren's lightsaber, and various aliens. Together, they allow us to become engaged with what we hear by creating a sense of realism and fantasy at once. The Force Awakens not only reminds us of the classic sounds but introduces us to a world full of new ones.nnCopyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Fair use is a use permitted by copyright statute that might otherwise be infringing. Non-profit, educational or personal use tips the balance in favor of fair use. Less
