After two months of hustling with the authorities and collecting refusals which simply translated to; „Life is a bucket of shit Mein Herr, we quite agree“, we finally got the green lights to run the WITP Germany in Stuttgart’s Nuttenpark.nThe Nuttenpark, established in 2002 as an alternative to the central Skategrounds on Königstraße, is located in an area notorious for a high density of homeless people and prostitutes. With a large number of Skateparks popping up around Stuttgart in the last few years, this park became somewhat of a backwater. However, last Saturday, it was time to wipe away the cobwebs, gather the locals together and get freaking WILD IN THE PARKS.nThe park is located in a alleyway, begging for fast skateboarding. The three areas we run the contest on were:nAREA 1: a stair set with a down rail and two kinked hubbas
AREA 2: a hip with a gnarly bank to bank transferand a flat rail
AREA 3: a medium sized quarter pipe, a bank and a curbnSkaters got welcomed by free donuts, drinks and watermelon to keep the energy level high.nAs the judges Heiko Jäger, Alex Funk & Timo Kavermann were good to go, local skatelegend Christoph Inger grabbed the mic, put in some Hank 3 country sounds and it was time to rock ‘n’ roll for the under 14 category. Like a hungry wolf pack, the kids were feasting on the obstacles. Especially the two young guns Henry Gebhard and Laurin Breuning who are no strangers to the WITP contest series were destroying the hip and quarter in its entity. Tricks such as Hardflips, Bs Bigspin Flips, Fs Flips, 360 Flips on the hip, Lipslides down the stair set rail, and plenty other tricks went down.nMeanwhile the Moto-City Barbecue got fired up and everyone got invited to “customise their own burger”.nUnfortunately the weather situation appeared to become unstable and first rain clouds were spotted on the horizon. Thus we proceeded directly with the over 15 category which, similar to the weather, became quickly a dark and stormy one. Bonelessing over the hips, and stairs Alex Misch was jumping around the park like a little fairy, sprinkling some magic dust in every corner. On the other hand supporters could watch Daniel Rode nailing an almost perfect heat and Stefan Lovric busting a 360 bs Nosegrab rock n’ roll.nAs time was leaking away, the weather situation got worse and judges and speaker gathered for an emergency meeting. The final agreement was to prolong the heat and make it simultaneously the final of the OPEN category. Amongst the “Open” riders were well known faces such as Portuguese ripper Helder Lima, Sandro Trovato, Phil Anderson, Tom Dietrich, Daniel Goody and the park locals Matthias Gramespacher, Nick Henning and Pascal Schmid. In other words there was blood in the air and the wolfs were around. Sandro, the beasty cat started his heat with a ridiculous kickflip over the transfer while Helder Lima disrespected the purpose of the down rail and boardslided it up the seven stairs. On the other side of the park one could witness Julian reading the park in a bowl like fashion and popping one grab after another over the transfer, followed by sick tricks on the quarter pipe.nAndi Welther who showed up to a pretty late call at the venue, went mental and popped out a fs flip late shove it out off the bank, a trick seldom seen even amongst the wealthier and well travelled skaters. Half through the heat it was believed that there was actually nothing to add when Phil Anderson pulled a fs tailslide over the transfer and Andi Welther landed his fs flip over the transfer. As soon as the final ended the clouds opened up and showered the Nuttenpark.nThis Saturday Volcom went Wet and Wild In The Nuttenpark. It was a blast!
