I Am For PeacennThe death toll for victims of gun violence younger than 18 in Chicago is devastating our communities. Bullets travel through windows, drywall and back yards to find innocent victims. Firearms are too easily accessible to teenagers who reach them to settle disputes.nnSchoolchildren are afraid -- but not of leading.nnI Am For Peace shows how three Chicago high school students took lessons from the classroom to the streets to organize one of the largest student-led peace marches in the city's modern-day history.nnEach week, students at Perspectives Charter Schools spend 180 minutes in A Disciplined Life (ADL) class. They talk with their teachers and peers about the problems facing their communities, and how to apply the 26 principles of ADL to become leaders and role models, to self-reflect and make better decisions.nnOn June 5, 2014, 2,000 middle- and high-school students from Perspectives' five schools were joined by community activists, local elected officials, business leaders and more than 30 media outlets for the I Am For Peace march and rally to stand up against violence in too many of Chicago's neighborhoods.nnStudents expressed their hopes for the safe return of all their classmates in the fall. Sadly, one of them didn’t – a 16-year-old girl killed in a drive-by shooting.nnThe film features opening remarks by Chicago-born actress/singer Jennifer Hudson and an interview with U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.
