The two-week-long Chinese New Year celebration continues with colorful and joyous celebrations all across the Mainland. Ethnic minority groups and various regions are celebrating the New Year in their own traditional and folk styles. The minority Qiang people in Shaanxi Province are celebrating the New Year with a swath of daring feats. Some were seen climbing a ladder with 21 sharp knives as rails, locally known as "knife mountain climbing." Spectators are watching holding their breath as performers climb each step upward. Another feat is walking across a bridge plugged with 16 sharp knives. The most-daring feat of all is skimming over what they call "a sea of fire." In this daring act, performers walk bare-footed across a 32-foot-stretch of fiery-hot charcoal. The dragon lantern dance is a highlight among villagers in Wuyuan of China's Jiangxi Province. The dragon is made with 98 benches and 294 lanterns and locals carry this dragon lantern through the village. In Heze of East China's Shandong Province, a stilt-walking event was an attraction at the Culture, Tourism, and Art Festival. The ethnic Miao people in central China's Hunan Province are also celebrating the New Year the traditional way. They paraded through the streets performing a colorful dragon dance. Two people were left dead and 24 more injured when a man set off a homemade explosive outside of a park in Heze, Shandong province yesterday night. The suspect, 33-year-old Xie Xintang, was killed in the blast, which occurred at around 10:00 p.m. near Shan county's Huxi Park. Three of the injured people are now in critical condition. It's believed that Xie had intended to commit suicide. The materials used in the homemade explosive have not yet been identified, Xinhua reports, citing press officer Li Meng at the county public security bureau. The unemployed suspect had been living with liver cirrhosis, scarring of the liver caused by long-term liver damage. He had reportedly been admitted to the hospital on a number of occasions but treatment had failed to help him, and his condition had recently worsened.
