The Chief Rabbi of the West Bank settlement of Kiryat Arba has issued a ruling that would allow killing civilians in times of war. Raabi Dov Lior made the comment in a verdict, a copy of which has also been sent to Israeli Minister of Military Affairs Moshe Ya'alon. In the verdict, the rabbi claimed that in times of war, it is permissible to fiercely attack what he described as the enemy population, even if it means to hurt and take innocent lives. Hundreds of rabbis in the United States have signed a letter, asking the US congress to support the nuclear deal reached between Iran and P5+1. The letter was signed by 340 rabbis from all streams of Judaism. It urges the House of Representatives and the Senate to endorse the agreement. The rabbis also warned that the consequences of rejecting the accord will be huge for Washington and the Jewish community. Congress is set to vote on the conclusion in late September while the Republican majority has vowed to vote against it.
