Law enforcement officials in the US state of Ohio say that several people were found dead in a home in Pike County. According to investigators, no one has been taken into custody. There was no official word on how many people had been killed, however local television station WKRC said seven people were dead. Other sources report seven victims. Fox 28 in neighbouring Columbus said two of the dead were teenagers. The Ohio Attorney General’s office said crime scene units were at the scene on rural road about seventy-five miles east of Cincinnati. April 3, 2014 marks the 40th Anniversary of the Super Tornado Outbreak of 1974. This particular outbreak was one of the worst in United States history. More than 148 tornadoes touched down in 13 states, including Ohio, killing 330 people, injuring more than 5,000, and creating a damage path of more than 2,500 miles. One of the last places the April 3, 1974 twister hit before it left Louisville was the community of Northfield in the east end. WDRB-TV production manager David Callan lived in the community, and his father captured the aftermath of the Super Outbreak on his 8mm camera -- film that's never been shown until now. One of the more incredible images captured on this film is the fact that David's family's home was not just still standing but suffered little damage, while neighbors on either side were left with shells of homes. The home video shows one trying to salvage the little that's left, while on the other side, people are standing on the second floor, removing what had been a bedroom wall. All along Stannye Drive, there are piles and piles of debris, what had been dining rooms, kitchens and bedrooms -- reduced to boards and pieces of dry wall. Crumpled cars, including one flattened like a pancake against a tree are scattered throughout the neighborhood. One has a message, perhaps to a relative, "Ed, Nat and kids OK" and where he needs to go -- the only way to communicate, since phones were out and there was no such thing as cell phones or texting. On one side of the street, there was nothing left, while on the other, homes are still standing. There's a driveway that now leads to nothing and, as cars pass by on I-264 in the background, you see one home where the chimney was only thing spared. After revealing Hillary Clinton had called him to concede, he paid a rare tribute to his rival, acknowledging: “This political stuff is nasty and it is tough.” In a speech designed to allay fears he promised to reach out to those who had not given him his vote and expressed a wish to work with “other nations who are willing to get along with us.” Significantly, he did not mention immigration, nor a proposed wall on the Mexican border which had featured heavily in his campaigning. Markets tumble Nevertheless, markets around the world tumbled through the night as the result emerged. The Mexican Peso dropped to record lows on concerns about the impact on cross-border trade. And it wasn’t just traders who were reeling. Democrats had been assured by pollsters that their candidate was a sure fire winner. Democratic supporters stunned Things started to go wrong for them around 3am CET, however, as Trump claimed the key swing state of Ohio, followed shortly afterwards by the even more significant Florida. The Javits Centre, Hillary Clinton’s HQ in New York, started emptying out after her campaign chief John Podesta told supporters to “go home and get some sleep”. Those who were left expressed disappointment, adding they hoped Trump would succeed in uniting the country. A rejection of the establishment Donald Trump’s victory comes after an especially bitter campaign that has further polarized an already deeply divided nation, and is widely seen as a powerful rejection of the establishment – an administration represented not only by Mrs Clinton, but also outgoing president Barack Obama. The Kremlin added that Putin also said he was sure a constructive dialogue between Moscow and Washington would serve the interested of both countries. Europe reacts to Trump victory British Prime Minister Theresa May congratulated Donald Trump on winning the presidency, saying Britain and the United States would remain “strong and close partners on trade, security and defence”. Foreign secretary Boris Johnson tweeted: “I believe passionately in the importance of the UK-US relationship and am confident we can take it forward together.” In France, President Francois Hollande congratulated Trump on his victory, but warned the result would open up a period of uncertainty. France would be vigilant and frank in its talks with the new administration on international issues, he said, adding that Trump’s victory showed that France needed to be stronger and that Europe needed to be united. Far-right National Front party leader Marine Le Pen was also swift to react: “Congratulations to the new president of the United States Donald Trump and to the free American people!” she tweeted. According to opinion polls, Le Pen is likely to win the first round of France’s presidential elections next year, but would lose in the second round. RALEIGH --A recent harrowing experience serves as a reminder to motorists to Move Over. On Aug. 7, Trooper A. G. Knight was conducting a traffic stop on US 64 in Wake County, a practice he had done time and time again. But this day would be like no other day. As he spoke to the driver on the shoulder of the roadway, he suddenly heard the sound of skidding tires and the smell of burning rubber. With 80,000 pounds of metal bearing down on him, he ran for cover out of harm's way. Thankfully, in this case, everyone walked away without a scratch. However, not all law enforcement officers have been so lucky. Since 1999, more than 164 U.S. law enforcement officers have been struck and killed by vehicles along America's highways. Originally enacted in 2002, the Move Over law directs motorists to change lanes or slow down when passing a stopped emergency vehicle with flashing lights on the roadside. In the fall of 2012, the law was revised to include "public service" vehicles. Public services vehicles are described as any vehicle that is being used to assist motorists or law enforcement officers with wrecked or disabled vehicles, or is a vehicle being used to install, maintain or restore utility service, including electric, cable, telephone, communications and gas. These vehicles must display amber lights. In part, the law states: Motorists who are driving on a four-lane highway are required to move their vehicle into a lane that is not the lane nearest the parked or standing authorized emergency vehicle or public service vehicle and continue traveling in that lane until safely clear of the authorized emergency vehicle. Motorists who are traveling on a two-lane highway are required to slow their vehicle, maintaining a safe speed for traffic conditions, and operate the vehicle at a reduced speed and be prepared to stop until completely past the authorized emergency vehicle or public service vehicle. The penalty for violating the law is a $250 fine plus court costs. Motorists can face misdemeanor charges for causing personal injury or property damage greater than $500 and felony charges for severe injury or death in the immediate area of a stopped emergency vehicle or public service vehicle. The Department of Transportation and the Department of Public Safety have been working to educate motorists about the Move Over law since its inception. Surprisingly, one study has revealed that over 71 % of the motoring public across the U.S. are unaware of this law. Throughout the state, numerous signs are erected stating Move Over or Reduce Speed for Stopped Emergency Vehicles. The signs are installed along interstate and U.S. routes to educate and warn motorists but more importantly, save lives.
