Holy miracle! Watch Virgin Mary's lips 'MOVE' on painting during prayer Stunned believers are flocking to the church to witness the unusual sight that has left even sceptics scratching their heads Hundreds of Christians are flocking to church to witness a 'miracle' painting of the Virgin Mary who appears to join in with the Lord's prayer. Stunned believers filmed the astonishing moment her lips appeared to move on the artwork during Mass last Sunday. Footage shows the congregation saying the 'Our Father' prayer but after several seconds it's clear several Christians are distracted by something else. If you look closely, the Virgin Mary's mouth appears to move during the biblical reading, becoming clearer towards the end of the video. Baffled George Akary filmed what he believes is a 'miracle' in St Charbel's church, Sydney, before posting it on Facebook. #financial_support_div{ display:none; position: absolute; width:300px; height:180px; margin-left: -150px; margin-top: -70px; /*- half of width and height */ top:50%; left:50%; padding: 5px; opacity:0.9; filter:alpha(opacity=90); z-index:1000; background-color:#000; color: white; } .close_box{ background: gray; color:#fff; padding:1px 3px; display:inline; position:absolute; right:1px; margin-right: -13px; margin-top: -13px; border-radius:3px; cursor:pointer; border: 1px #000 solid; } $(document).on("click",".close_box",function(){ $(this).parent().fadeTo(300,0,function(){ $(this).remove(); }); }); Loading the player ... Pope Francis’ weekly address had a festive atmosphere as thousands gathered in St Peter’s Square to celebrate his 78th birthday. The celebrations were tailored to make him feel at home, with a mass Argentinian tango and a cup of mate tea typical of his birthplace. Despite the high spirits, the Pope took the time to pay tribute to the multiple victims of this week’s terror attacks: “Now a moment of silence and then with the Lord’s prayer, I wish to pray with you for the victims caused by the inhuman terrorist acts in Australia, Pakistan and Yemen.” He even received a late birthday present when the US president thanked him for the role he played in helping to normalise US-Cuba relations. In Athens, hundreds of people have queued up to take advantage of a free Christmas dinner organised by a food bank. Poverty levels are at an all time high with more than 25% of Greeks without a job. Those who have been out of work for more than a year don’t get any help from the state. Charities say they have seen a sharp increase in the number of people relying on soup kitchens and food hand-outs in the last year. At the sports hall where the lunch was held, the atmosphere was festive with people grateful to have some respite from the hardship of their lives. Forty four-year-old Yannis who is unemployed said:“The situation in this country, in Greece, is so tragic. People are being tormented by so many problems. I came here today, on the day Christ was born, to forget my problems, to find some warmth, some peace.” The Greek recession and fierce austerity cuts imposed by the EU and IMF have left many ordinary Greeks struggling to pay their household bills and unable to heat their homes. One of the world’s oldest banks has fared worst in the European Banking Authority’s latest stress tests. Italy’s Monte dei Paschi di Siena announced it had secured an eleventh-hour rescue package shortly before it was revealed to be the weakest following a health check of the European Union’s 51 biggest banks. Economist Giuseppe Di Taranto works at the Faculty of Economics at LUISS University. He said the outcome of the assessment was not worrying. “We cannot deny that Monte dei Paschi di Siena has difficulties. However, it’s a periodic problem, not a structural or severe systemic one.” These are the third such tests in the bloc since tax payers were forced to bail out lenders during the 2007-09 financial crisis. There was no judgement of ‘pass’ or ‘fail’, but pronouncements of ‘healthy’ for Italian banks in general provoked mixed reactions from local residents. “I am not really worried about our banks because, you see, the Italian people have very good habits, economically. So everybody is always trying to put some little thing apart,” said pensioner Fulvio. However, Rome resident Lucrezia was more concerned. “There is no way ahead,” she said. “People are not investing and clearly if they are not given help by the banks, and they can’t get by on their own, the crisis increases.” The UK’s Royal Bank of Scotland Group and Germany’s Deutsche Bank also performed poorly in relation to other institutions. A U-turn at the Russian border may be the only choice for truckers delivering produce from the European Union, after Moscow banned imports of most food from the West. Frustration is already clear at the frontier with Finland with long queues building up as the embargo, imposed by Russia in retaliation for sanctions over Ukraine, takes immediate effect. Highlighting the impact on the German market, the country’s farming minister Christian Schmidt argues it won’t be hit as hard as the public might believe. He says that in the last nine months or so: “Russia has already been a changeable customer, and our exports of meat and milk have dropped dramatically.” In Greece, some believe the ban could benefit local consumers – forcing prices down as exporters have to sell at home produce they can no longer ship to Russia. Athens fruit salesman Spilios Nassopoulos said: “People will eat at a discount. It is just that the producers won’t get the income they have had. That is the only problem. The producers will be hit. But the people in the cities will eat cheap fruit.” Imported food accounts for 43 percent of what Russians eat. Half of the cheese consumed in Russia comes from abroad as well as nearly two thirds of the vegetables, and around a quarter of the beef and pork. But some shoppers in Moscow see the ban as an opportunity. “I think it is the right decision,” said Alla, as she made her purchases in a supermarket in the Russian capital. “I think our producers need to start working to make their products available to us so that we can start buying our own produce.” Russia’s one year ban covers all meat, fish, dairy, fruit and vegetables from the United States, the 28 European Union countries, Canada, Australia and non-EU member Norway. A woman decided to climb St. Mary's church, Huntingdon. The 23-year-old had climbed most of the way up St Mary’s Church in the town centre and was balancing on the roof ridge when some masonry apparently gave way under her and she fell before landing on a lower section of roofing. She climbed on to the church barefoot after being seen causing a disturbance in the High Street earlier in the afternoon. A police spokesman said the woman had escaped major injury in the fall and had been detained for her own protection. Less
