Jac was introduced to wearing the bit six hours into his training. If you watch the videos (Episode 18) you will see that overall his mouth is very quite, not chomping or chewing on the bit. nnAt over 22 hours in training he showed his first sign of discomfort by grinding his teeth. He did not do it consistently and it was very subtle but it was there. nnOur equine dentist was out of town. Jac's symptoms could also be more than just teeth which is why I wanted to go to someone with an open mind; a vet who also does chiropractic and acupuncture. nnDr. Luckenbill checked Jac over thoroughly including; straight line trotting, chiropractic evaluation; jaw, teeth, muscles, motion palpation, chiropractic adjustment, removal of wolf teeth and floating (removing sharp edges) of Jac's sharp teeth. Dr. Luckenbill didn't see a need for acupuncture with Jac. nnJac now has over ninety hours of training and the teeth grinding has not reappeared.nnA special thanks to Dr. Luckenbill at The Pony Express Veterinary Hospital for allowing us to video and for helping Jac. nnThis is the story of two-year-old Jacs Electric Whiz (Jac), the last baby out of Whizards Baby Doll, better known as "Roxy". Roxy touched the hearts of horse lovers around the world when she and Stacy Westfall made history with their bareback and bridleless freestyle reining ride. The loss of Roxy in 2012 has left a void in the equine community. Each horse is an individual and each one, like each person, has their own path. Deciding to collect and freeze semen from Jac is a process I have never been a part of before. When Greg (he owns Jac) and I were discussing it there were many reasons to consider freezing;nn1) something could happen to Jac-unexpected death like Roxynn2) the decision could be made to sell Jac-Jac's older brother was sold and is overseas and showing VERY wellnn3) Jac could end up being gelded-then he could be turned out with more horsesnnGreg checked around and found the experts at Select Breeders Services Southwest Aubrey, Texas. (http://www.selectbreeders.com)nnWhen we took Jac over to SBS everyone was great. Debbie McPherson and Sharon Miggans gave me a tour and answer all the questions I had for them. I was shown where Jac would stay, questioned about his feeding and was also able to choose his exercise while he stayed there. They also showed me where the frozen semen is stored and explained the process from collection all the way to shipping to the mare owner.nnOne of my questions was 'how long can the semen stay frozen for and still be used?' The answer is that if it is stored properly...nearly unlimited time. I probably should have spent more time on their FAQ page as the answers to most of my questions can be fount there.nnAfter my tour Debbie and Sharon introduced me to Patrick Rollins and the three surprised me by offering to go ahead and collect Jac!nnI had accepted the idea that I was just going to drop Jac off and wouldn't be able to see any of the and show me the steps of analyzing everything. To say that I was excited to see the process would be an understatement. The technology is amazing. The initial numbers with Jac looked good and since the video was made they have continued to collect and test. Select Breeders has now determined the best extender to freeze Jac's semen in and they have collected enough to breed approximately 18 mares, someday in the future.nnJac stayed in Aubrey, Texas while we returned to Ohio.
