When we came across the connection between Saucony's origin and the early development of the NASA Space Program, we not only wanted to highlight that special piece of history, but the idea. The first American Spacewalk is a feat in itself, but it was part of a much larger field of progression; to innovate, explore, and expand man's reach.nnnThe ACES preparation and hard work sent humans into the unknown territory of space. The Space Snack, in typical EB wit, gave a lighthearted, nostalgic, gesture to sustenance needed to continue in flight. But all good- no, great journeys empirically begin with a common value. A purpose. A goal. A destination.nnNo greater cause could have compelled mankind to consider space exploration during the 1950's more than the desire to ascend from Earth, into the unknown, and to the Moon. Though extensive research had already confirmed it was a desolate and compromising environment, the mere thought of setting foot on its surface gave way to endless possibilities. And so, as a grand homage to the first generation of astronauts and one of the greatest milestones in human history, Extra Butter and Saucony presents the "Moonwalker" Shadow 6000.nnWe start with a sport micro-mesh base, as fitted on all classic Saucony runner during the same era. The overlay dons a light grey 210 Denier, durable nylon oxford, reminiscent of NASA's original silvery space suits. A topographic lunar landscape pattern graces the mudguard and heel wrap of the silhouette, while the midsole dons a starry black and white speckle. The sheen reflective properties of the tongue label and heel tab evoke the mirror-like visors astronauts sport to protect themselves from the harsh UV rays of the sun. The overall subtle grayscale palette is given accent with a reflective Saucony river logo panel and an optional set of reflective laces. And finally, a translucent ice sole provides a see-through into more of the lunar pattern, reminding us wherever we go, our potential is far greater.   Less

Cinema can open up new vistas for our minds. nnThis video is a new collaboration with my friend, artist and filmmaker Jason Silva, host of National Geographic's BrainGames and creator of Shots of Awe. nJason sent me an inspiring recording he made in the park with his Iphone discussing how powerful advances in technology can extend our connections to each other making us more compassionate and kind-hearted beings.nHe proposes that communication technologies act as "empathy machines", opening up new intersubjective spaces where we can all become one.nThese new tools give us new "spaces of possibility" to explore, and this video is a celebration of that new space of imagination, compassion, collaboration and inspiration. nnJason and I have become good friends, kindred spirits, and share a passion for intense inspiration, for using videos to share new vistas, and when he sent me this I was so excited, I started creating visuals right away. What does astronaut see from up there? From the red soil of africa, the blue water of oceans, to the green lights of the poles and yellow light of human activity, discover, throught this journey to space, something astoundingly beautiful and strange at the same time.nnI wanted to do something different from what has been done before with thoses shots. Something more dynamic and fast. After all, ISS travel through space at 28.000km/h! There are also more recent footage that have never been used (at least I think...) in other edits.nnAll the credit goes to the crew members of ISS expeditions 28, 29, 30, 31, 34, shot from 2011 to 2014.nThe international Space Station weigh 377 tons, orbits the earth at around 350km from the surface, and does one spin around the earth in 1h30, at 28.000k/h! At 1'11 we can see a little refueling shuttle desintegrating back to earth. At 1'20, it's a little telecom satellitte that is launch in orbit. The little green and purple lights you can see at 1'57 are respectively fishing boats and oil platforms offshore with the big city of Bangkok nearby.nnAll the footage (around 80GB of pictures) was processed throught after effects/premiere, denoised for some shots, removal of dead pixels for some shots, deflickering, and simple color grading (didnt want to change the already incredible look! just curves, saturation, and some blue crushing).
