Retired silversmith Robert Lapham says Darke "is exactly what this company needs for the future."nnIraq war veteran Tom Pullin forged his life in the military, turning to the GI Bill to pursue training at the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, DC. For Pullin, metal work is a healing path to exorcize the chaotic, confusing, horrifying experiences of war. Pullin works with instructor Davidé Prete and fellow veteran Jeremiah Holland to combine ancient techniques of forging and casting with cutting edge 3-D printing technology. They create a metal skull, a haunting reminder of a young Iraqi girl whose grave was disturbed in a search for a downed Marine. Retired Brigadier General Nolen Bivens, nationally recognized champion of the Army Arts & Crafts program, emphasizes the importance of creativity in the military and the incalculable benefits of the arts to America's warriors.nnAlbert Paley prepares for the most ambitious project of his fifty-year career: Paley on Park Avenue. Thirteen monumental sculptures will be on view on Park Avenue in New York City from June 17 - November 8, 2013. Amid the flying sparks and the red-hot steel, we witness Paley's mastery of all the processes necessary to turn sheets of metal into seemingly weightless ribbons undulating twenty feet above the ground. Paley has pursued a career that has consistently challenged his abilities. "I have a very aggressive, assertive personality and it is made manifest through the materials", Paley says. Gerald Celente, publisher of the Trends journal, says careful of the hype - the warnings of a collapse have been strongly exaggerated.nnThe partial shutdown will leave some essential government functions, including national security and public safety, intact. It's not clear how long the situation will continue, with lawmakers expected to take a further vote in a matter of hours. nnIf the shutdown persists, it will affect an estimated 800,000 of public workers, who will be forced into unpaid leave as the government would be unable to fund their employment. National parks and most federal offices are closed, as is almost all of NASA, except for Mission Control in Houston.nnWith the threat of a federal government shutdown hanging over the US economy, here is a handy list of the possible effects American citizens and the rest of the world could face if no deal is reached to continue funding.nn1 Countdown to US default loomsn A halt of US government operations would drag the world's biggest economy closer to bankruptcy, something unprecedented in US history. If no budget deal is done, the US would bump up against their "debt ceiling" and run out of money by October 17. By then, the US government would have less than $30 billion cash on hand, Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew has calculated.nn2 Hundreds of thousands of federal employees on furloughn A one-time layoff of 800,000 people working for the US government would erode the earlier projected economic growth of 2.5 percent for the fourth quarter of 2013 by about 0.32 percentage points, according to a forecast by Mark Zandi, chief economist and co-founder of Moody's Analytics. That projection assumes a two-week shutdown. If it drags into a whole month, the loss of GDP would rise to 1.4 percentage points.nn3 Troops' paychecks stoppedn About 1.4 million military active-duty personnel would keep on working, but with their paychecks delayed. Approval for troops' paychecks is dependent on Obama's proposed 2014 federal budget being passed by Congress.nn4 Women and children's nutrition program threatenedn Pregnant women and new moms who are poor and facing "nutrition risk" won't be able to buy healthy food, as a looming shutdown would put bracers on the $6 billion Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women Infants and Children (WIC).nn5 $85 billion in cuts to federal programsnWhen a shutdown was last threatened in March 2013, it would have resulted in $85 billion in automatic cuts in spending on federal programs -- many aimed at alleviating social hardship. The cuts, known as sequestration, would affect grants to local organizations and funds that keep those programs running.nn6 Housing loans haltednUS federal programs that provide for about 30 percent of all new loans in the housing market -- a backbone of the country's economy -- will be shut down. Government funding of new businesses will also be halted, as well as workplace health and safety inspections.nn7 Trade talks scuppered?nUS plans to have a Pacific trade deal, the Trans Pacific Partnership, signed with the US's Asian partners could stall, as Obama may decide not to travel to this weekend's Bali, Indonesia meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation nations. While he could still go if no deal is done by then, it could be a gift for his Republican opponents if Obama was seen to be jetting off to a tropical paradise at a time when federal employees were sent home without pay.nn8 Visa delays likelyn Thousands of Americans may not be able to get passports for foreign travel, and tourists travelling to the US will likely face delays in visa processing. During the last government shutdown in 1996-97, some 20,000-30,000 applications remained unprocessed daily.nn9 Space program on holdn Space agency NASA will be hit the most, as the agency will need to furlough about 97 percent of its employees, though it will continue to keep workers at Mission Control in Houston and elsewhere to support the International Space Station, where the two NASA astronauts currently on board, Michael Hopkins and Karen Nyberg, may not know whether they have jobs to come back to.nn10 National parks, museums and zoos would close to the publicnState-funded museums, art galleries and zoos across the country would keep their doors closed Tuesday, leaving thousands of employees furloughed and visitors unable to see attractions. My strategy was to prove him to be the liar I knew he WOULD BE, thus hurting his credibility and creating doubt to win the case. There was no doubt in my mind this man was going to lie under oath. As a matter of fact I was counting on it. It didn't take long for the lies to spew forth. nnJackman was VERY arrogant and perjured himself on several occasions by claiming "I had to ask him several times to produce a driver's license", AND, "he refused to sign the ticket" (see, I told you all cops are liars). I then persuaded the judge to let me play the video. Jackman got very pissed off because he didn't think the judge would allow me to play it. I asked to repeat the comments then played the tape to prove he was lying through his teeth.nnI also made an ass out of him by asking him a series of questions like "How do you calibrate the tuning fork used to test the radar gun?". He could not answer that question, and many others like it. If looks could kill I would have died a thousands deaths.nnJudge found me guilty for doing 43 in a 30. He felt the radar gun was in good working order and Jackman used it properly.nnI then filed for an appeal so I could have a jury trial in the county courthouse, with a different judge. I eventually withdrew the case when I discovered I would have had to pay the jury seven or eight hundreds dollars if I were to lose again. It just wasn't worth the risk.nn****************************************************************nnON ANOTHER NOTE: After this traffic stop took place I was informed that Jackman once intimidated my nephew, who just returned home from a tour of duty in Iraq, into searching his car. Are viewers simply terrified into readily believing everything that they see on TV?nnThis footage comes from a VCR recording taped on the morning of 9/11 by Popeye at Federaljack.com. Reviewing it now years later leaves us with fresh questions and definitely many more questions than it answers.
