West Palm Beach, FL - The accident happened Thursday morning, September 17 in West Palm Beach at the intersection of Australian Avenue and Worthington Road. The officer was wearing a body camera, and it was rolling at the time of the crash. The video starts as West Palm Beach Police officer Eric Evrley, driving a marked patrol car, appears to be scrolling through some phone numbers on his cell phone as he’s driving. A few seconds later, he reaches the intersection of Australian and Worthington, where another car makes a left turn in front of him and they collide. His body cam is rolling and the video shows a violent crash, and the airbags deploy inside the police car. The officer then utters an obscenity and gets out of his squad car. Seconds after the crash, the video shows the police officer walking over to the car that hit him. “What are you, what the f-- is she doing?” Evrley says as he walks toward the car. The body cam video shows the woman’s breasts are exposed, as she opens her car door. “Are you okay? What are you doin’? Fix yourself please. What are you doin’? You pulled right in front of me!” Officer Evrley says to the woman, who police identify as Cynthia Osborne, 53, of West Palm Beach. It appears from the video that Osborne did not say anything in response to the officer’s question. Police say she had an open wine bottle in her car. With body camera still rolling, the officer sits down on the curb, waiting for paramedics to arrive. And he talks to some bystanders who can be seen from the waist down on the body cam video. “I couldn’t believe, she pulled out right in front of me,” Officer Evrley says. “ You didn’t have a chance to brake or nothing,” a bystander says. “I tried. I couldn’t,” Officer Evrley responds. At one point, when it appears to him that Osborne is still in her car preparing to put the car in reverse, he walks back over to her car to get her keys. “Ma’m is your car off? She has it in reverse. Please put your car in park. Take the key out of the ignition for me. Thank you. Thank you,” Evrley says, as she gives him the car keys. Osborne does not say anything on the video. As the police officer sits on the curb he says several times that he’s seeing stars and says his neck hurts. While waiting for paramedics, he has a brief conversation with a female bystander. Osborne remains behind bars. She’s charged with DUI, driving without a license, and refusing to submit to a blood test. Records show she had a prior DUI arrest in March 2015. West Palm Beach Police have said both the officer and Osborne suffered non-life threatening injuries. Less
