It is the circle of life so to speak at a Bald Eagles nest in south central Minnesota. The camera inside the eagles nest captured a pair of eagles feeding their trio of eaglets a duck that was killed by the male eagle. The duck had an egg that she had not laid and it fell out while the eagles were eating her. The female eagle later pulled the egg into the nest bowl and is currently sitting on the duck egg. #financial_support_div{ display:none; position: absolute; width:300px; height:180px; margin-left: -150px; margin-top: -70px; /*- half of width and height */ top:50%; left:50%; padding: 5px; opacity:0.9; filter:alpha(opacity=90); z-index:1000; background-color:#000; color: white; } .close_box{ background: gray; color:#fff; padding:1px 3px; display:inline; position:absolute; right:1px; margin-right: -13px; margin-top: -13px; border-radius:3px; cursor:pointer; border: 1px #000 solid; } $(document).on("click",".close_box",function(){ $(this).parent().fadeTo(300,0,function(){ $(this).remove(); }); }); Loading the player ... What is it like to have a bald eagle land on you? On the golf course? Here it is in slow motion POV. Sequoia is a 27-year-old bald eagle who has been permanently injured since her first year of life. She was shot by a hunter, leaving her with a paralyzed tail and crooked toe/talon. She cannot maneuver well enough to hunt. After veterinary treatment she became an education ambassador at the San Francisco Zoo. There, under the direction of John Aiken and with volunteer John Flynn, Sequoia learned to fly back and forth between the two men. Injuries were sustained; Mr. Flynn has a sizable scar on his forehead where the eagle cut open his scalp. For approximately 25 years these two men have made the almost daily commitment to transport Sequoia to a local park or golf course for flying exercises. When Mr. Aiken became director of the Palo Alto Junior Museum and Zoo, Sequoia went with him. In this video Sequoia is flying over the Palo Alto golf course; the course owners approve of her rather spectacular distraction because she flushes the Canadian geese away from the manicured grounds. Sequoia is outfitted with a tiny radio transmitter so she can be tracked; on occasion she goes rogue and enjoys some real freedom. My hat is off to these two men for their commitment to this animal. Get involved with your local animal shelter or rescue facility - you never know where it may take you. #financial_support_div{ display:none; position: absolute; width:300px; height:180px; margin-left: -150px; margin-top: -70px; /*- half of width and height */ top:50%; left:50%; padding: 5px; opacity:0.9; filter:alpha(opacity=90); z-index:1000; background-color:#000; color: white; } .close_box{ background: gray; color:#fff; padding:1px 3px; display:inline; position:absolute; right:1px; margin-right: -13px; margin-top: -13px; border-radius:3px; cursor:pointer; border: 1px #000 solid; } $(document).on("click",".close_box",function(){ $(this).parent().fadeTo(300,0,function(){ $(this).remove(); }); }); Loading the player ... Rebecca McBride recorded this video in Wisconsin, US, of a bald eagle swooping to catch a fish. The bizarre aspect of this video is that the dead fish was purposely thrown into the lake to feed the eagle. After the throw, the eagle is summoned with a whistle and the animal responds immediately from its perch in the surrounding trees. The strange event was captured from Rebecca’s dock in Spread Eagle, Wisconsin. Credit:Becky McBride. Less
