This 2-minute music video incorporates time-lapse and still images I shot at the Old Man on His Back Prairie & Heritage Conservation Area in southwest Saskatchewan, Canada, on three perfect nights, May 18-20, 2015. nnThe area is named for the nearby hill formation that is thought to resemble the profile of Napi, the Siksika creator figure, who laid down to rest here after having created the world. The area is operated by the Nature Conservancy of Canada as a place to return the prairie to its natural state, with native plant and animal species. nnThe land was once owned by the Butala family who settled here the 1920s and operated a family ranch for many decades. In the mid-1990s Peter and Sharon Butala turned over their ranch to the NCC to create the Conservation Area. It is between Grasslands National Park (to the east) and Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park (to the west), both designated as Dark Sky Preserves. The OMB area is also very dark at night, with little sign of manmade light pollution, providing wonderful views of the Milky Way and the night sky. It is an ideal spot for stargazing. nnThe video makes use of footage I shot around the OMB Visitor Centre, the former ranch home of the Butala family. nnTo shoot the sequences I used three cameras, and time-lapse gear such as a Dynamic Perception Stage Zero dolly with the Stage R pan motor, a Radian motion controller, as well as static cameras on a tripod. Software I used in processing included LRTimelapse v4, Adobe Camera Raw, and Photoshop CC, PTGui (for the 360° panorama), and the Advanced Stacker Actions from Star Circle Academy (for the star trail streak effects). I used the program Sequence to assemble the frames into movies. For final editing of stills and movies I used Aperture's slide show function.nnMusic is the royalty-free piece "Live Your Dreams" by the composer Adi Goldstein (AGSoundtrax.com) whose wonderful music is great for time-lapse compilations.   Less

Time lapse video shot in the Owens River Valley near Independence, CA across two nights December 28 & 29. Several parts of the river were frozen solid enough to walk on, and definitely solid enough to rest a camera rig on. It was nice to be able to extend the camera further out past the reeds on the shore. nnBig camera moves were shot on a Dynamic Perception Stage One PLUS with a Stage R pan/tilt rig and smaller moves were shot on an eMotimo TB3 and a Polarie Vixen. With a flight landing and taking off almost every minute during peak hours, it can get pretty insane. nnShoot a timelapse of that, and you get transported to a sci-fi world with shooting stars breaking into the atmosphere.nnThis was shot mostly in the restricted runway area of Singapore's Changi Airport and the surrounding public areas for some scenes. I was so close to the planes that my cameras literally got shaken by the rumbles from the jet engines - Which actually produced a pretty neat effect. This is a Star Wars spin-off project. Since we are never going to see (and play) remakes or sequels to the famous SW series of space simulations like Tie Fighter and X-Wing, I wanted to do my own version of them. My goal was to make it exactly as if you would play the SW (the original) movies. Very similar in lighting, style and general atmosphere. The game is set in universe similar to the SW as it is artistically inspired by it. This universe could be a sort of parallel SW universe if you will. So, ships, fighters, vehicles and sociopolitical setting could be similar as well...but not quite the same.nnThis is pre-pre-pre-alpha testing WIP stage, just to see how everything would feel and work (so, no texture work, just rough draft design models). Video is captured in real time in Unreal Engine 4. This is one really, really (really) great engine. I was quite pleased with the overall performance of it, because I could make movie-like atmosphere, to be realistic and yet to have that stylized lighting. It is quite capable and versatile engine. There are few glitches in the video, however they are made by a video capture software for some reason (mini-game performed flawlessly, even as it was not optimized).nnEverything in this video (except laser blast sound and music) is original (made/designed) and it is inspired by the SW original movies.nnDISCLAMER ones again -this is Star Wars SPIN-OFF project and it is only inspired by it. The Blaster sound and the music was only used in this non-profit, fan video, just to give it a flavor and it will not end up in the final project.   Less
