See more architecture and design movies at dezeen.com/moviesnnLondon designer Benjamin Hubert created a screen of modular twig-like structures to surround the auditorium at trade show 100% Design during the London Design Festival.nnCalled Amass, the modular system comprises three different components that can be configured in several orientations.nn"The branched form of Amass was inspired by the controlled randomness found in nature and the building blocks of life," said Benjamin Hubert.nnFor 100% Design, 46,000 pieces were hung in curtains around the stage and seating area to create a permeable visual barrier defining the space.nnn"The brief called for a visually iconic space that would create a reference point within 100% Design," Hubert explained.nn"Based on observations from previous years, the auditorium needed to accommodate an audience for the seminar programme without excluding passers-by."nnAlthough other modular plastic partitions already exist on the market - Algue by the Bouroullec Brothers being perhaps the best-known example - Hubert points out that his system can be used to create structural compositions like walls and corners as well as simple curtains.nn"Amass was created to build architectural structure as apposed to other modular plastic products, which only act as simple curtains or dividers," he said.nn"The Amass geometry allows for walls of varying thickness and corners to be created, forming three-dimensional structures."nnThe parts are made of injection-moulded polypropylene, which can be recycled, but they are also reusable.nn"Each year, trade shows reportedly generate more than 600,000 tonnes of waste, much of which comes from the exhibition design and structure," Hubert noted.nnAfter an event using his system, the whole installation can be taken apart and reassembled elsewhere.nnFollowing its debut hosting the talks programme at 100% Design, the product will be made available for space devision in commercial and contract interiors. It has applications ranging in scale from one square metre to over 100 square metres.nn100% deign took place from 18 to 21 September as part of the London Design Festival. Less

LINE SEGMENTS SPACEnKimchi and Chips, 2013nProjection, Nylon string, Coden nCONCEPTnAn architectural web of threads subtends a null space. It hangs abstract and undefined, a set of thin positive elements segmenting the dark negative space between. Dynamic imaginary forms are articulated into the physical volume by the material of this thread, and the semi-material of the light. The visual gravity of the filaments occupying the space between.nnA 2D canvas is reduced from a surface piece into a line segment, but then constructed into another dimension, a volume. Light creates contrast and order on the lines to articulate digital matter. Digital forms inhabit the interconnected boundaries of space, becoming incarnate as visual mass.nnThe artists reference Picasso’s light painting, and Reticuláreas of Gego who’s work offers a contemplation of the material and immaterial, time and space, origin and encounter and art and technology.nnnEXHIBITIONnLine Segments Space was presented at Seoul Art Space Gumcheon in 2013 as part of Da Vinci Idea exhibition of new works.nnLine Of Sight (a ‘live install’ edition of Line Segments Space) will be presented at Resonate 2014 in collaboration with artist Andreas Müller and composer Jan Nemeček.nnnCREDITSnnARTISTSnMimi SonnElliot WoodsnnSOUND DESIGNnJunghoon Pi (http://junghoonpi.com)nnPRODUCTION ASSISTANTnChamsaennnhttp://www.kimchiandchips.com Less

In the spirit of Philip Roth’s The Plot Against America, one of America’s foremost lawyers lays out in chilling detail what such a future might look like: constitutional protections dismantled; all aspects of life dominated by an authoritarian law called “The Blessing,” enforced by a reconfigured Internet known as the “Purity Web.” Those who defy this system, among them the narrator, live on the edges of society, sustained by the belief that democracy will rise to triumph over such tyrannical oppression.nnBUY CHRISTIAN NATION: nAmazon: http://bit.ly/christian-nation-amazonnBarnes & Noble: http://bit.ly/christian-nation-bnniBookstore: http://bit.ly/christian-nation-iBookstorenIndiebound: http://bit.ly/christian-nation-at-your-local-bookstorenPowell's: http://bit.ly/christian-nation-powellsnn-------nW. For our Design In Public Spaces class, we studied the role of the designer in public space projects as well as researched emerging trends and technologies in order to design improvements to the user experience of Citi Bike in New York City. Because of limited funding and personnel within NYC Bike Share (the organization running Citi Bike), our team focused on designing realistic solutions that could be easily introduced within Citi Bike's current system. nnBeginning with extensive user research our team identified two main areas of frustration, payment process and bike removal. To improve these experiences we took a closer look at the functionality of these processes. Currently, single day and one week passes can only be purchased at a Citi Bike kiosk that can attract long lines and often malfunction. And once a user has purchased a pass, the instructions on how to remove and replace a bike are not clear.nnWe proposed an online payment system that would also store a user's information. This would almost eliminate a user's time spent at the kiosk and allow for quicker renewals of bike rentals. Information such as terms and conditions as well as instructional videos can be seen on the Citi Bike website so that there is no confusion when arriving to the kiosk. Once at the kiosk the user is only required to proceed through three screens (compared to a current 30+ screens) before seeing a quick gif on how to pick up a bike and receiving a receipt that displays a detailed illustration of how to enter the bike access code. With these simple improvements we imagine Citi Bike could increase new user sign ups as well as encourage extended use. After proposing these improvements to an employee of NYC Bike Share, her team has decided to start implementing our proposals for the info-graphic at the kiosk and the illustration on the receipt. "In Mere Spaces All Things Are Side By Side I" is the first in series of videos exploring the complex adoption and accessibility of the internet in a Developing country. Rather than thinking about technology from a position of privilege, it focuses on the gap, failure, limitation, and the frustration of access to technology. nnThe videos are primarily inspired by my saved Yahoo chat histories from a 4 year long online relationship when I lived in Iran... but rather than delving into the relationship itself, it creates an imagined space between physical and virtual to connect the failure of the relationship to the failure of technology and communication.
