(AP) — A blind Labrador Retriever lost in the thick woods and steep terrain of California's Santa Cruz mountains was missing for more than a week before she was found last week.nnKCBS reports the dog named Sage is now back home and OK after a neighbor discovered her lying in a shallow stream.nnHer owner Beth Cole says the family mistakenly thought Sage had been brought into the house on Feb. 24.nnAbout an hour later, they realized she was outside and gone. The trio set sail on the 42-foot Walkabout from California about a month ago and before the hurricane was a known threat. When confronted by the storm’s high winds and waves, the boat quickly began to succumb to the forces. One of its hatches was ripped off and the water pumping system was unable to keep up with the incoming flow.Among the onboard items lost was the life raft. The passengers alerted the Coast Guard and it was determined that the only vessel close enough to be of help was a container ship. As water conditions were still quite dangerous at the time the cargo vessel got the call for assistance, the rescue mission had to be delayed for several hours. Once the waters calmed, the makeshift rescue team approached the boat, which by that time had been stranded and adrift on the violent waters for around 24 hours. The passengers were pulled to safety and are now en route to Honolulu. Less

A woman prompted a two-hour long rescue after becoming trapped inside of a man’s chimney. The incident occurred early Saturday morning after the 35-year-old female got stuck while trying to climb further down the chimney of a residence in Woodcrest, California. A 35-year-old nude woman prompted a two-hour long rescue after becoming trapped inside a chimney. The incident occurred early Saturday morning at a residence in Woodcrest, California.The home belongs to Tony Hernandez; the man who fathered the woman's children. According to Hernandez, his estranged girlfriend attempted to open the door of his house in the early morning hours but found she couldn’t get in because it was locked. Undeterred, she climbed on top of the roof and tried to gain entry inside the home via the one foot by one foot chimney. She took her clothes off, presumably to make the trip down easier, but the woman still got stuck inside. Hernandez was sleeping during all this, but awoke to hear her pleas for help. He attempted to get to her using an extension cord but it wouldn’t work so the fire department was contacted for assistance. Crews had to expand the fireplace opening as part of the rescue operation. The woman was transported to the hospital, where her injuries were listed as minor. Although she doesn’t live in the home, Hernandez said she sometimes visits to see their kids. Less
