Parker, CO - One of the three teenage boys pulled from an icy retention pond Thursday afternoon has died, Parker Police confirm. The two others remain in the hospital. One of them is "doing well," according to Parker Police, and the other is receiving treatment. All three were students at Legend High School. The boy who died was underwater for more than 35 minutes before rescuers were able to pull him out. A nearby resident first called police about the incident at 4:26 p.m. Parker Police spokesperson Chris Peters said officers were there within five minutes. The first officer to arrive saw one teen in the water, hanging onto a chunk of ice. The officer waded waist deep into the water and used a tree branch to pull the teen to safety. Peters says that boy was struggling but conscious. That teen was released from the hospital Thursday evening. A second teen was rescued shortly thereafter after South Metro Fire Rescue arrived on the scene. He was taken to an area hospital too and was later airlifted to Children's Hospital. His condition is unknown at this time. Thirty-five minutes after the initial call, the third boy was pulled from the not-quite-iced-over pond and rushed to the hospital, Peters says. Authorities confirmed he had died a few hours later. Less

China is known for its many dramatic incidents, with many people getting themselves stuck between walls or left hanging at terrifying heights. The latest such incident involved a 3-year-old boy who fell into a deserted well in Shandong Province, and found himself stuck 90 meters below ground. The boy was playing near the well, when he accidentally fell in. Firefighters were then called in to rescue him. They used a special device to locate the boy and then let down a rope into the well. The boy used one of his hands to grab the rope as the rescuers pulled him out of the well after a two-hour attempt. Finally, the baby was rushed to hospital for medical attention, but thankfully, he was discharged with no injuries. Less

Eagle, ID - A little lighter news for the day. Eagle Police Officer Zach Helbach can add “ducking liberator” to his resume after improvising the rescue of 10 baby ducks that fell into a storm sewer Wednesday morning. Eagle Police got a call around 9 a.m. from a resident on S. Kestrel Place who heard a mother duck squawking at the sewer and saw the babies were trapped. Helbach was able to reach down and fish out the first seven ducklings with a plastic container. Three others kept swimming, so Zach moved over to a manhole down the street, leaned down in, and fished out the rest. Mom seemed pretty relieved, Helbach said. “Once I got them all out, Mom got ‘em all together and they just walked over to a nearby irrigation canal,” he said. Less

A young woman had to rescued from her car as rushing water started to get inside her vehicle on Thursday evening. She is crediting a crew of employees from Saltgrass Steakhouse on 45 north near 105 for performing the daring rescue, which was caught entirely on camera. "We saw the minvan up there, and my friend Corey and I had been we were discussing we should go help them out," said Alex Villarreal. The young woman inside that minivan was 19-year-old Antoinette Williams. "I was already panicking a little bit because of how heavy the rain was I couldn't see at all," said Williams. As the water continued to rise, Williams knew she had to get out somehow. "I'm so thankful and happy they were there," she said. Employees from Saltgrass Steakhouse noticed the young woman and immediately ran out to help. "The one thing that was going through my mind was, 'Man if we slip, we are (done),'" he said. Water was moving so fast Corey Mangrum took a fall. "A huge piece of wood came right at us. We tried to stop it, but it hit me," said Mangrum. Eventually they placed a ladder on the window. "We all held together as a chain," said Mangrum. Williams was able to crawl to safety. "It was a surreal moment," she said. The employees said they would do it all over again if they had to. Williams is just grateful. "All I just want to say is thank you so much cause they really did save my life," she said. "I could have drowned." Less
