PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Coast Guard medevaced a 66-year-old man Wednesday from a cruise ship approximately 50 miles east of Wilmington, N.C. Personnel aboard the 950-foot cruise ship Carnival Splendor notified watchstanders at the Fifth District Command Center at approximately 10:45 p.m. Tuesday stating the man was is in medical distress. Coast Guard watchstanders launched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., to assist. The helicopter crew arrived on scene at approximately 1:30 a.m., hoisted the man and took him to Wilmington International Airport. An ambulance crew at the airport took the man to New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He is my life and reason for living. His choice of this Sunday afternoon was to indulge his senses in his love of buses...lots and lots of buses. Where else but at the bus depot just down the road from where I live. All the while he is humming the replicated sound of the engines and transmission noises in sync and engaging in "Stimming" which is one of his many traits. James has high function autism and is one of the happiest kids on this planet. A prouder father I could not be. So I leave you to watch this and enjoy one of the most pleasurable moments in my life. For those of you who do not know about "Stimming", here is an explanation which I copied below.Stimming is a repetitive body movement that self-stimulates one or more senses in a regulated manner. Stimming is known in psychiatry as a "stereotypy", a continuous, purposeless movement. Stimming is one of the symptoms listed by the DSM IV for autism, although it is observed in about 10 percent of young children without autism. Many autistic children have no stims. Common forms of stimming among autistic people include hand flapping, body spinning or rocking, lining up or spinning toys or other objects, echolalia,perseveration, and repeating rote phrases. [1] There are many theories about the function of stimming, and the reasons for its increased incidence in autistic people. Corporal Craig Harrison is in the record books for the longest confirmed kill at 2707 yards. I was using 300gr Berger bullets traveling at 2740 FPS. This shot required about 35 mils of hold over, with the Nightforce NXS I was able to dial 27.5 mils, back the magnification off to 13X and use the bottom of the 5 mil reticle. With a flight time of just over 5 seconds it comes in pounding with 740ft-lbs of energy (about 2x the energy of a 9mm at the muzzle) at 1.54mi away.
