National Guard troops and police positioned themselves in front of protesters in Ferguson Missouri late on Wednesday in a move aimed at heading off a third night of violence. Meanwhile the family of Michael Brown – the black teenager shot dead by a local police officer – has spoken out accusing the US justice system of failing them. “Respect is definitely at the core And we deserve equal amount of respect and we are not getting it, and that was all that we wanted is equality for what happened to our son,” said Lesley McSpadden, mother of Michael Brown, in her first televised interview since a Grand Jury’s decision not to charge the police officer who shot her unarmed 18-year-old son. She continued saying: “And I think it’s very unfair and I’m just like, I never knew that this is how things would go, this is how things operated there, that the system could fail you so much.” Across the United States largely peaceful protests have continued from New York to Los Angeles. Tensions between police and black Americans have simmered for decades but the Brown killing and the much viewed lack of legal come-back against the officer who shot him appears to have crystalised a sense of anger. Police in the US searching for an Iraq war veteran suspected of killing six members of his own family in Pennsylvania, say they have found his body. A district attorney said it was discovered on Tuesday afternoon after a two-day manhunt that resulted in lockdowns and school closures in and around the town of Pennburg, some 80km northwest of Philadelphia. Thirty-five year-old Bradley William Stone was wanted over the deaths of his ex-wife, her mother, grandmother, sister and two other family members including his 14 year-old niece. His 17 year-old nephew was seriously wounded and is in hospital. Sources said the victims had suffered gunshot and stab wounds. His eight and five year-old daughters were unharmed, as was his current wife and infant child. Stone had deployed to Iraq in 2002. He left the army in 2011 by honourable discharge but had since suffered post-traumatic stress disorder. Authorities say he died of “self-inflicted cutting wounds”. Less

The relatives of 43 of Mexico’s missing students say they are to open their own search after the failure of local and federal police to find any of them alive. DNA tests conducted by the FBI have only confirmed the identity one of the missing student teachers from a number of mass graves that have recently been unearthed, the result say witnesses from Guerreros state, of the police handing prisoners over to drug gangs. “We’re going to look for all of them. We’re not going to count on the government anymore because it does nothing for us. They just tell us that we should give up, how are we going to give up? Would the President give up if it was his son?” said grieving father Rafael Lopez. Witness statements just made public allege police and drugs gangs collaborated in what is being described as a “hillside massacre” in Iguala in late September, when a number of people were shot or beaten to death by police officers before some 80 eighty students and teachers, over half from the same school, were handed over to local drugs gang lords. To date some 80 arrests have been made of politicians, local government and police officers but the victims’ families say the corrupt system is incapable of finding the truth. Less

There have been emotional scenes in Jordan as King Abdullah II comforts the family of the captured pilot murdered by ISIL militants. But the sadness has also turned to anger, with promises of what the king describes as a “harsh” response. Ehab Al-Kaseasbeh, a pilot of the cousin, told euronews: “It’s here that we had Mouath’s wedding, and now it’s where we’re grieving for him. But in fact it’s more than mourning, it’s like a ceremony of honour for Mouath, a martyr who is now with God.” Jordanian parliamentarian, Mazen Al-Dalaeen, said: “We ask the international community to increase the military offensive against this terrorist organisation, which is not related to Islam, this brutal organisation, killing innocent people.” There was shock around the world after ISIL militants in Syria released a video of the pilot being burned alive in a cage. Jordan has already started sending more fighter jets to bomb ISIL positions. Our correspondent in Jordan, Mohammed Shaikhibrahim, reported: “Solidarity for the family of the pilot is coming not only from inside Jordan, but also the Arab world and the wider international community. He has become a hero and a symbol for his country in the current war against ISIL. People here say the crime will lead to a quicker demise of this terrorist organisation.” Less

Relatives of those on-board the Germanwings flight which crashed in the French Alps have gathered together in Le Vernet. It is the closest inhabited area to the mountains where their loved ones were killed on Tuesday. They arrived as investigators revealed details about the co-pilot’s fatal actions in the lead up to the crash. The families stood together near a line of national flags, representing the many countries in mourning. Seventy-two Germans and 50 Spanish nationals were onboard the Airbus A320. There were also passengers from the US, Morocco, Argentina, Australia and Japan, among other countries. For those relatives visiting Le Vernet, chapels were prepared for them, with a view of the mountains where the plane went down. “This day is without doubt one of the most difficult for the families,” said euronews correspondent Laurence Alexandrowicz, “because they have come very near to the mountain where their loved ones were killed. A day also marked by the announcement that the co-pilot appears to have deliberately brought the plane down.” Less

Kenya has begun three days of national mourning after the Garissa university campus rampage by al Shabaab Islamist militants that left 148 people dead, nearly all of them students. A reward equivalent to some 200,000 euros has been offered for the capture of the suspected mastermind of the massacre – Mohamed Mohamud – a former teacher at a Koranic school in Garissa, which lies 200 kilometres from the Somali border. Survivors have been reunited with their families at a sports stadium in Nairobi. Some are still physically injured. Many are deeply traumatised. “As much as I’m grateful, I wish my friends were here because I wish they could share this moment with me, with their parents,” said 18-year-old Lavenda Mutesi. “I have lost many of my friends,” added fellow survivor Lydia Mwende. “The events which happened, which took place and whatever we went through is still in our minds so we can’t forget. I can’t go back there.” Garissa University is shut indefinitely. Christians were targeted in the siege and al-Shabaab, based in neighbouring Somalia, has promised more of the same – vowing Kenya’s cities will ‘run red with blood’. Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta says those behind an attack were “deeply embedded” in Kenya, and called on Muslims at home to help prevent radicalisation. He made the comments in a televised speech on Saturday after the Interior Ministry said five suspects in the assault had been detained, some while trying to flee to Somalia. Four suspects were Kenyans of Somali origin, and the fifth was Tanzanian, the ministry said Four attackers died at Garissa, but Kenya has not named them or announced their nationalities. The authorities put their bullet-ridden, swollen bodies on display on Saturday, hoping that crowds coming to view the corpses might identify them. Less

A senior UN delegation has visited camps in Baghdad for Iraq’s internally-displaced people – 2.7 million of whom have fled their homes since January last year. Lise Grande, Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq, toured a camp for families from Ramadi. In the past two weeks alone, an estimated 114,000 people have poured out of the western city, as ISIL militants moved in. Humanitarian agencies are doing their best to accommodate those caught up in the vast exodus. It comes as Iraqi security forces pursue efforts to rout ISIL from Ramadi. They have regained some ground amid fierce fighting that often boils down to tough guerrilla warfare. Iraqi troops and Shi’ite militias expelled the insurgents from the city of Tikrit this month but their attack on Ramadi illustrates the extremists’ resilience. Less

A French court has cleared two police officers accused of contributing to the deaths of two teenagers in a Paris suburb almost ten years ago, a case which sparked major riots. In 2005, 15-year-old Bouna Traore and 17-year-old Zyed Benna chased by police entered a power substation in Clichy-sous-Bois to hide and were electrocuted. The judge ruled that the officers were not responsible for their deaths due to inaction, a decision which caused outrage among the families of the victims after the almost ten year wait. The brother of Zyed, Adel Benna said: “I’m sickened, I’m disappointed, I’m disgusted, I’m everything you can imagine. The police are untouchable, not just in this case but they’re never convicted.” Had they been convicted the police officers faced up to five years in jail, the defence lawyer Daniel Merchat said that the case which has been running for nine years had also been harrowing for his clients, adding, “today this long journey of suffering has ended and so it’s finished for them and they are relieved.” A lawyer for the families said they would appeal the decision in the hope of winning civil damages. With the release of the verdict came calls for protests across the country, a representative for the families called for calm. Less

Rescuers in Colombia continue the search for victims of a landslide that tore through the town of Salgar killing more than 60 people and injuring dozens more in the worst disaster of its kind for a decade. President Juan Manuel Santos visited the affected areas northwest of the capital on Monday, declaring a public emergency to free up funds for the victims, many of whom who lost everything in the deluge. “I promised them, all of those who lost their homes, that we were are going to give them free homes. I promised them [Salgar residents] that we would give free houses to all those families who lost their homes,” he said. He promised around 6,000 euros to each family affected and promised infrastructure improvements to prevent another tragedy. Houses built closest to the river were the worst affected when the landslide ripped through the town at a time when most residents were sleeping. Less

Out of the failed policy to "Transform the Mideast" by usa north Iraq quietly began a quest to seek all those goals on their own when usa toppled Saddam. North Iraq had recently ended a civil war between the PUK Talabanis dominated family and the Barzani family dominated KDP. Messed up things happened but in spite of this North Iraq began a quest for separation from the religious type govt. forming in Bagdad and focused on economic development. They with the sole exeption of Ansar al islam "A Kurdish Qaeda group" never did attack coalition troops. There were never any attacks at all from PKK PUK KDP or any bands of militant kurds on coalition troops. North Iraq was totally safe and sane. Incomes rose and high rises went up. They were going up at the time the isis thing broke out. many people in both Syria and Iraq have fled to the safety of north Iraq heaping a huge burden on their funds. The corrupt Bagdad govt. owes them billions in back payments and just gets in the way. Peshmerga are divided into two parties there is PUK peshma and KDP peshma. Many new recruits are green to the battle and Washington is stalling on things like training and arming them. Washington is still stuck on the failed notion that these Kurd dominant population should somehow identify as Iraqis. Its like asking Poland to identify as Germans after WW2. Saddam regime poison gas attacks and ethnic cleansing killed 50 - 100k in late 80's early 90's when the Kurds rebelled. Turkey threatened to invade north Iraq if they declared independence, but it was a threat they were not willing to back up. Today Turkey has given up their hopes of rolling back the level of autonomy north Iraq has. This is evidenced by the fact there is not an embargo on Turkish construction companies doing business in north Iraq. Turkey buys gas from them but has been looking to Russia to supplant north Iraq gas needs in order to make them more dependent on Bagdad. North Iraq now has more oil with Kirkuk but they do not have axcess to the ocean that is needed to actually sell it in sufficient quantities. The deal with Turkey is that they get a cheaper source of oil but in exchange the pipeline also goes to port so it can be offloaded to ships. This is why Turkeys interest in switching to another suppliers. Turkey is terrified of recent gains by YPG to their south border. Rumors of an alternative path to the ocean are floating in Anakara. YPG is trying to stay one step ahead of Er dog an by pushing on towards Raqqa making Turkish plans for a north Syria invasion and land annexation more complex and politically dangerous. Turkey would seek to cutoff Kobane and Afrin from north Iraq by annexing land between Tal abyad and raqqa. YPG is in a race to control land deep in Syria between the pinch point of Abyad and Raqqa to circumvent this and make it politically expensive as possible. North Iraqs most reliable partner in the war on terror has been Germany, while usa has refused to give them what they need and sent it all to the enemy Bagdad Germany has directly sent armored vehicles and arms that have saved many lives. lives that would be lost if it were up to usa. A vote in us congress failed to send arms to peshmerga as a 60 vote threshold in the senate was needed. The deciding factor was democrats who were against it. Peshmerga are about as far as they want to go in grabbing territory from isis. YPG has more territory to conquer in order to further secure a route to North Iraq for supplies and reconstruction materials that are banned by Turkey. Less

On the first full day of his three-nation trip to South America, Pope Francis was greeted by thousands of excited Ecuadoreans in the coastal city of Guayaquil. The port is sometimes referred to the world’s “banana capital” given its bustling fruit trade. It is also the departure point for the Galapagos Islands, where Charles Darwin began to formulate his ideas on evolution. Francis was in the country’s second city to conduct mass for more than half a million people. The 78-year centered his sermon on the theme of the family, which will be the subject of a month-long synod of bishops at the Vatican in October. It’s then contentious issues such as welcoming Catholics who have divorced and remarried outside the Church and how to reach out to homosexual catholics will be discussed.
