It was one of five shootings targeting the same Thomastown family in the last seven months. On this occasion in December last year, the gunman knocked on the front door of the family's home and introduced himself as John. Police said when the man inside the house asked what he wanted, the attacker pulled out a gun and fired a shot through the door. The bullet just missed the man in the house. His wife and three children were asleep in the house at the time but were not injured. The cctv showed the gunman running away from the house before getting into a vehicle. It was the third time the house on Chateau Court had been targetted. Two other properties linked to the family at Mill Park and Campbellfield have also been shot at. Police investigating the shootings said they had released the footage in the hope that someone would recognize the gunman. #financial_support_div{ display:none; position: absolute; width:300px; height:180px; margin-left: -150px; margin-top: -70px; /*- half of width and height */ top:50%; left:50%; padding: 5px; opacity:0.9; filter:alpha(opacity=90); z-index:1000; background-color:#000; color: white; } .close_box{ background: gray; color:#fff; padding:1px 3px; display:inline; position:absolute; right:1px; margin-right: -13px; margin-top: -13px; border-radius:3px; cursor:pointer; border: 1px #000 solid; } $(document).on("click",".close_box",function(){ $(this).parent().fadeTo(300,0,function(){ $(this).remove(); }); }); Loading the player ... RIO DE JANEIRO – At least 17 people are missing today after floodwaters caused the collapse of a bridge in the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, authorities said. The rain-swollen Jacui River brought down a bridge near the municipality of Agudo, where crowds of curiosity-seekers had gathered to see the rising waters, police Col. João Carlos Trindade Lopes told radio Gaucha. Trindade said that between 25-30 people fell in the water when the bridge collapsed and emergency services units were able to pull eight of them out of the current alive. Another five people who kept from falling in the water by hanging onto trees and brush were rescued from the riverbanks. Up to now no dead bodies have been pulled out of the river, Trinidade said, though the air base in the neighboring town of Santa Maria at first said that seven people had died. “We can only speak of missing persons, but it would be very hard for anyone to escape from such a powerful current alive,” Trinidade said. Two air force helicopters were flying over the region looking for survivors, aided in the search by a boat of firefighters and three more carrying volunteers. Agudo Mayor Ari Anunciação said on radio Gaucha that the situation was “very grave” and that the strong current was impeding rescue efforts. In recent weeks the central area of Rio Grande do Sul state has seen heavy downpours and high winds that devastated several cities. Meanwhile, mudslides caused by torrential rains have claimed 85 lives in the Brazilian states of Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Minas Gerais. EFE (note: sorry for the lack of pixels) Less

Israeli air strikes have been lighting up the sky over the Gaza Strip early on Saturday morning. The 72 hour ceasefire which began on Friday broke down quickly and violence returned to the streets of the enclave. The southern town of Rafah bore the brunt of Israeli shelling on Friday with at least 60 deaths reported. In the town of Khan Younis, the Red Crescent building was reportedly hit by an Israeli strike. Earlier, Hamas accused Israel of breaking the ceasefire, which lasted less than two hours, but the Israeli Defense Forces said it was responding to rocket fire and the alleged kidnapping of an Israeli soldier. Hamas claims it doesn’t know the whereabouts of missing Hadar Goldin and said he may have been killed during an ambush. Meanwhile, the Israeli military has released new footage of its troops inside the Gaza Strip. The Israeli cabinet held a rare session on Friday after the start of the Jewish Sabbath to discuss the ongoing crisis. The US has said it would work towards securing another ceasefire. Gaza officials have said around 1,600 people have been killed since the beginning of Operation Protective Edge. At least 60 Israelis have also died as a result of the fighting. Less
