Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is opposed to the ongoing British and French airstrikes in his country. Assad says London and Paris helped the rise of Daesh and al-Nusra Front terrorists in the first place. Assad has told British newspaper The Sunday Times that the British and French airstrikes are illegal and will help spread terrorism. The Syrian president warned that the attacks will produce no results, since London and Paris have neither the will nor the vision on how to defeat the terrorists. Assad also accused Britain of exporting terrorists to Syria. He stressed that Europe, rather than Syria, is now the breeding ground for terrorists and that local sleeper cells are now the main threat to Europe. Assad also hailed Russian and Iranian support for Syria's steadfastness against the terrorists. The UN secretary-general says settling the crisis in Syria should not be hindered by differences on the fate of President Bashar al-Assad. Ban made the comments days after anti-Damascus groups that gathered in the Saudi capital had called for the ouster of Assad. US Secretary of State John Kerry also rejected the call, saying it’s a non-starting position which is NOT the official policy of the International Syria Support Group. Others on LL have shared videos of celebrations after news of the fall of Mennagh, and footage of attacks before the fall, here is some footage of the opposition charging the walls of this strategic base in the outskirts of Aleppo. The other video is in the dark, but shows some dead soldiers after the opposition claims a tank tried to escape from the air base. Some have doubts about the entire fall of the base, but it is evident that much if not all of it has. Less

The United States and its western allies have been dragging their feet in dealing with an attack on Syria. However Israeli officials are reportedly livid that US president Barack Obama says the Congress must vote on whether the US will attack Syria or not. Israel considers Barack Obama's decision to delay military intervention in Syria as a sign of weakness. Some Israeli media sources have even called the US president a "coward". What are Israel's stakes in a military intervention in Syria? Why are Israel, some Arab states and the Syrian Turkey-based opposition pressing for military action against Syria? Less

The political and media advisor to the Syrian leader says a war was imposed on her country to change the regional balance. Botheina Sha’aban believes Syria fell prey to the deadly conflict for backing resistance movements in the region. Sha'aban says the regional and international line-up against Syria intensified following Israel’s 33-day war on Lebanon in 2006, AND its 2008 offensive against the Gaza Strip. She also says the West and Israel want to change the regional balance of power to their own interest, adding that the nearly three-year war on Syria has already changed regional and international criterions. Sha’aban believes the outcome of the conflict, which she called a proxy war, would further determine the future of the region. She also pointed to Turkey, Qatar and Saudi Arabia as the main supporters of the war under the Western and US influence. She said the government of the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan thought it could take control over the region, which was a failed attempt. She also slammed the West for its double standards. She went on to say that despite their attempts, the resistance in Syria has proven effective. Once Western countries and the US realized that they were unable to change anything, they allowed Saudi Arabia to financially support and send in militants from the Islamic Front and al-Nusrah to take control of parts of Syria. Regarding the Geneva conference, she said Syria attended the meeting to prove its commitment to finding a political solution to end the conflict there. Less

Foreign-backed insurgents have fired mortars, killing several people across the country. A child and a woman were killed when a barrage of shells hit al-Na’ourah neighborhood in the northwestern city of Idlib. Nearly two dozen others, among them women and children were injured as the shells landed near a public park. Similar attacks on the capital Damascus have killed a young girl and left nearly two dozen civilians injured. Great material damage was also caused. Less

Syrian troops are discovering many hideouts where militants in the al-Qalamoun region used to keep their weapons. Depots of explosives, mortars and missiles have been found in various parts of the region. The stocks shows how well prepared the militants were highlighting the strategic importance of the region which the army retook on April 16. This report is from September 2013, when we made a forecast on how the extremist groups in Iraq would drive the country into a Sunni-Shia civil war. What seemed nearly impossible a year ago, is now reality. More than 4.000 civilians have been killed in Iraq this year alone. This is the highest death toll since the end of the civil war in 2007. But unlike the previous attacks, which targeted governmental institutions, these new series of attacks primarily target civilians. Equally important is the fact that most of these attacks were conducted by al-Qaeda, who's strategy it is to plunge Iraq back into a Sunni-Shia civil war, and amidst the anarchy and disunity, rise as the dominant faction. Just like what happened with the rise of jihadists in the Syrian civil war. Less

The United Nations Disengagement Observer Force says there are strong links between Israel and foreign-backed insurgents fighting the Syrian government. UNDOF has reported regular contacts between the Israeli army and armed Syrian militants in the Golan Heights over the past 18 months. Based on the reports, submitted to the UN Security Council, Israel treats wounded insurgents in its hospitals and helps armed terrorists cross into Israel. The Syrian army has sent a letter of complaint to UNDOF, saying Tel Aviv has set up tents to shelter armed terrorists entering Israel. Back in March, Press TV obtained an exclusive footage, showing Israeli soldiers transferring wounded insurgents into Israel. Less
